POLL: Who Would You Like to See Direct the Next THOR Film?

Give your thoughts on which director you believe should take over where Kenneth Branagh left off on the THOR franchise.

Fellow CBM Editor DCMarvelFreshman broke the news yesterday that Kenneth Branagh would not be returning to direct the next installment of THOR for Marvel Studios. The reason for his departure as director is irrelevant at this time and judging by the fact that he will still be involved with the film in some capacity, indicates to me that the decision was amicable as reported in the article. Branagh has mentioned in the past that he wasn't sure if he would be returning as director.

Now, while I loved what Branagh did with the THOR film, this is by no means "bad news" or "the end of the line" for the THOR franchise. There are more talented directors out there than you can shake a stick at and each one could bring their own "style" or "touch" to THOR, making the next film entertaining in a much different way than Branagh's version.

I have listed your director suggestions from DCMF's article in the following POLL. Before everybody starts with "WHY IS SO AND SO NOT ON THERE?" or"WHY IS SO AND SO ON THERE? THEY SUCK!" let me reiterate.....all of these directors were mentioned by you in the previous article. If there are other directors that you can think of, I will by all means, add them to the list.

jj is great but more syfy then mystical, toro has way to much shit going on with the hulk tv show and that other movie hes doing. jackson is to worried about the hobit. i might go with scott due to Gladiator even if his other movies are more war typ movies, but i think he would do a great job and make a great movie

Danny Boyle is an interesting choice id like to see what Duncan Jones and Brad Bird could do but they dont have the experience in SFX and comic/superhero movies.... Marvel is too frugal to pay someone like Peter Jackson... Del Toro certainly has the experience in SFX but hes pretty busy...

LOL. Yeah, like any of those great directors will bother giving their time to a Marvel sequel. The only one that should direct the movie is Ken. No one else and where is Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola? They would have made that list even more hilarious.

To be honest Peter Jackson, Darren Aronofsky, Danny Boyle and Ridley Scott are all above doing something like that (possible proof in the fact that Aronofsky pulled out of The Wolverine.

Probably the same with Guillermo del Toro and JJ Abrams.

Id much rather seen Duncan Jones do something original like Moon and Source Code as to me they are better and more interesting films.

Alfonso Cuarón could be interesting I guess.

And in terms of Mark Romanek and George Nolfi ive seen One hour photo and The Adjustment Bureau and neither stood out as having any element that translates to this.

Unless your dealing with a huge iconic series like Alien and getting someone like James Cameron for the most part the people that get brought in to do sequels are much lesser known and have less creative control due to the studios just wanting to milk more money out of the franchise.

The only elements i liked in Thor were the very Branaghy shakespearian brothers/father and son dynamics, i couldnt care less who directs the action stuff but id like to see someone else come in who is capable with that kind of thing.

in a similar way to what they are going to do next with batman and even green lantern where a director must feel even more like a mercenary to come in and carry on the work of another.

i hate you. :)

look, Nolan is an awesome director, but i get so sick of hearing everyone saying he should direct every movie under the sun.

i wouldn't mind seeing Alex Proyas' take on the Thunder God - especially Asgard. Just give him a great script to work from, his visuals should be amazing. Plus, Proyas would be coming off of Paradise Lost, so he'd have recent experience working with metaphysical characters...

Scorsese... Joking. Hemsworth should direct it himself. Also a joke. James Franco should direct it. Or Christopher Nolan. Maybe... James Rolfe... Paul Thomas Anderson, Quentin Tarantino, Robert Redford, Rob Zombie, Robert Ridriguez, Francis Ford Coppola... Steven Spielberg? Sam Mendes. Well the obvious choice would be Sam Raimi, he is the man to direct Thor 2 obviously.

I can tell you who I don't want it to be. Any of the people I just mentioned, or del Toro, if he is going to direct any comic book movie any time soon I would like for it to be Hellboy 3. Or Aronofsky, I would like to see him go back to his roots and do another movie like Pi or Requiem for a Dream. I haven't seen Source Code yet, but based on just Moon, which I loved, I don't want to see Duncan Jones to direct a comic book movie, and for him to stick to more original movies. I also don't want it to be either Abrams, Boyle or Scott. I for one never thought that Branagh would return to Thor, he will probably just be an executive producer or consultant of some sorts.

I think Brad Bird would be an inspired choice. Iron Giant and The Incredibles both speak for themselves, granted they are both animated films. But I have a feeling he's going to be a hot property once Hollywood sees what he's done with the new Mssion Impossible movie. He's already worked with Jeremy Renner. I can see him stepping into the Marvel universe quite nicely.

Marvel should be ashamed. They aren't willing to spend a dime once directors establish their brand; otherwise, why would these directors walk away from sequels to their biggest box office successes?

Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of these directors, but I'm not by any stretch of the imagination capable of seeing their gritty style implemented PROPERLY into a Thor movie.

I can't even believe Danny Boyle made it on the list. You want the director of Trainspotting and 28 Days later to do a sequel to Branagh's Thor?

Now I'm sure you guys mean well with your suggestions. There's a lot of admiration going out there. But I can't help but think that for a lot of these (for the most part) independent directors, being tapped to follow in someone else's footsteps is a joke.

Get George Lucas on there, lol. Just kidding. Mjolnir's not worthy of him.
