SHAZAM! Star Zachary Levi Recalls Disappointment With THOR Role And The Promise Marvel Studios Failed To Keep

Shazam! star Zachary Levi has opened up on his time playing Fandral in the Thor franchise, revealing that the promise of a decent role in Thor: The Dark World never panned out. Read on for further details!

Shazam! star Zachary Levi was recently in attendance for Dragon Con 2021, and he opened up about his brief stint in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor was supposed to play Fandral in 2011's Thor, but scheduling conflicts meant the role went to Josh Dallas instead. When he was too busy for the sequel, Levi was enlisted for Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok.

Unfortunately, he had a thankless role in both, but still remembers the experience as being "a dream come true." However, he also recalls being told by Marvel Studios when he signed on that he could expect The Warriors Three to have a much meatier part to play in Alan Taylor's movie (they didn't).

"To be honest, I had seen the first one, and I didn’t really feel like The Warriors Three were used all that well. So, I was like, ‘Hey, are you going to actually use these folks?' And they said, ‘Oh no, we’re gonna use The Warriors Three a lot in Thor: The Dark World . A lot. Yeah, you’re going to be busy.’ And I was like, ‘Okay,’ so I signed up for it."

"I didn’t have that much to do, you know? And really, nothing to do in the third one. I knew I was going to die in the third one. I didn’t know I was going to die, having said nothing. Even the few words they gave me were going to be taken away...and even if I didn’t die, they were probably going to snap me out of existence anyway, who am I kidding?"

While his time in the MCU was a disappointment, Levi says he's grateful because "I died in the Marvel Universe and then I got reborn in the DC Universe. I can’t even tell you how unbelievably cool that is and how grateful I am for that."

It's unfortunate that things ended the way they did for Fandral in the Thor franchise, and The Warriors Three, as a whole, never got the opportunity to live up to their comic book counterparts. Things did work out well for Levi, of course, and we'll soon see him in Shazam! Fury of the Gods

Fingers crossed Lady Sif fares a little better upon her MCU return, eh?

Sounds like the other execs that were above Kevin at the time really sucked.

Wish he had a bigger role in the MCU, but he is killing it as Shazam.

@TheHummus - Ike Perlmutter; MCU's #1 villain!

@TheHummus - I guess Ike figured their ToyBiz action figures wouldn't sell very well. We should all be grateful he is no longer a part of Marvel Studios.

@heyy1 - Ehhh knowing the higher ups during this time, he didn't have the full power he does now.

What frame of time are we talking about? Ragnarok happened after the Creative Committee/Perlmutter and was the film that did the least with the Warriors Three before disposing of them unceremoniously. And it didn't even mention Sif.

The Warriors Three were definitely underused over all three movies.

They shouldn't have recast the Fandral role after the first Thor.

Looking foward to more Shazam!

Well at least he is the star of one now.

Have Josh Dallas replace Ezra Miller as The Flash

Bet if Jamie Alexander was available the warrior three would have been killed in the same scene and she would have taken Hogan’s role

It sucks that these very important Thor characters weren’t given bigger roles. Even weirder that they were killed off.

@CAPTAINPINKEYE - someone had to die to show that Hela means business

@CAPTAINPINKEYE - this is why the thor movies were the weak point of the infinity saga, they only did the bare minimum with the interesting parts of the thor stories. Too much focus on Jane and Loki

@CAPTAINPINKEYE - honestly I couldn't care less. Zachary has a better role now and the Boring Three aren't part of the mcu anymore

@globaltravels - For sure. But it had next to no impact when the prior movies never established them as a big deal.

@heyy1 - there could have been a Disney plus series about the warriors three
BIGBMH

@globaltravels - I might agree if their deaths were used to drive Thor emotionally, but they have little impact within the story. It's just a waste of characters who were never able to realize their potential.

@zeon00 - that sounds like something ABC would make not Disney+, we're better off asking a series about the Galaga guy tbh 😆

Yeah the Thor films in general have made weird choices. And I love the first one it's one of my favourite MCU entries.

My hope is that some redemption can be found using Lady Sif and Balder the Brave.

@IronSpider101 - I think a Warriors 3 show + Sif would definitely be awesome. And we can make it happen by telling Marvel what we want, they do actually listen. A lot of the D+ shows are there because of fan outcry.
