Paramount and Marvel Studios’ Thor thundered into 25 international markets on Thursday, grossing an estimated $8 million for a total $23 million, including its Australian cume and previews.

In France, the superhero pic—directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Chris Hemsworth—grossed $1.6 million, on par with Iron Man and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Including previews, the two-day French total is $2.9 million.
In Germany, Thor’s opening day gross of $1.2 million outpaced Iron Man’s debut by 33%, and Wolverine, 115%. Adding in previews, Thor’s two-day take is $1.5 million.

Thor’s two-day total in the U.K. is $3.9 million, up 50% from Wolverine. Grosses include previews on Monday.

Thor outpaced Iron Man in Russia and Argentina. The pic opened to $1 million in Russia for a two-day total of $1.4 million, 20% ahead of Iron Man. It earned $110,000 in Argentina, 68% more than Iron Man.

In Malaysia, Thor took in $260,000, the biggest non-holiday opening ever for a Marvel title.

Thor opened first in Australia last weekend, where total box office revenues are now $9.7 million, 29% more than Iron Man’s first week.

The superhero tentpole opens in 20 more markets Friday, bringing its total territory count to 56.

Thor faces competition from Universal’s Fast Five in Germany, Russia and Spain. Fast Five, which opens Friday at the domestic box office, is off to roaring start overseas, grossing north of $35 million from only a few markets where it opened last weekend.

Fast Five beat Thor in Germany, opening to $2.2 million on Thursday to command 40% of the market. Thor grossed $1.2 million in its opening day.

Thor storms into US theaters May 6th!

Definitely deserves a sequel! The Thor comics have never seemed very interesting to me, so for them to make a movie about it that not only made me interested enough to watch, but to now regard it as one of my favourite films, it deserves every penny, and much, much more.

Guys, please check out my new fan fic if you have time X-Men Origins Magneto

Totally agree, I haven't read the comics but I do like the character.
The Hulk Vs Thor animated film was alright but this film is leeeeeagues ahead of anything I've seen.

Well deserved I think. As long as Thor pays off then we'll get more. Whether the "more" are flops or not is another matter.

It's a great film guys, I've seen it over here in the U.K. I'd say it's very much Lord of the Rings meets Superman. And IMO I'd put it slightly ahead of Iron Man just because of the pure awesomeness of Asgard!

Why would it be first in the USA? they do this a lot.. hell a lot of marvel animated tv shows start across seas to.. like wolverine and the x-men.. then make their way to the states.. they did this with Superman 2 as well it started in japan.. before it ever came to the states. I am surprised this film hasn't been leaked on the internet yet as its been 2 weeks over seas.

fan boys are funny.. they complained that Thor wasn't in his helmet enough, complained about the look of things and other stupid crap.... now the movie is a success and they all turn into cheerleaders.. LOL and you wonder why movie execs don't take the internet fans seriously. lol

Ranger14 - 4/29/2011, 11:28 AM
Chrome@the movie has only been out for a week internationally, not two weeks. Please point out who all these fanboys are that you are referring to who complained about the film and now in a week's time have turned into a cheerleader. I have only read maybe a handful of negative comments about the film anywhere.

@ Chrome
No Matter how well the movie does and how good the "fan Boys" think it is. They will still complain about Thor not wearing the Helm enough. They like the Helm.

Tons of people are going to love this movie...but still think Thors pants look weird and that Volstag isnt fat enough.

It’s entirely possible and normal and healthy to enjoy any piece of Film or art and still be able to criticize certain aspects of it.

But to sum up. You sound like a Douche hole

@ Firg

The short abswer is:
Volstagg is fat because Lee and Kirby wanted a fat guy in the warriors three.

Volstagg is often depicted eating in battle. He eats all the time.

@LordHuck Thor's pant's look fine to me and if Volstagg looked as fat as he does in the comics he would have looked silly IMO. But you can't please every one.
