THOR: Josh Hartnett May Play God of Mischief

THOR: Josh Hartnett May Play God of Mischief

Never a villain before, rumors say Josh Harnett is gearing up to play Thor's evil brother Loki...

Sounds like Kenneth Branagh is at least considering (some people in the movie business also calls this "being on the short list") Josh Hartnett to play the God of Mischief Thor's big tall and ugly brother Loki.

IESB.net had this to say "Loki isn't a very nice guy. He's quite treachorous actually and fancies himself the God of Mischief. He is repeatedly trying to get rid of Thor and seize the throne of Asgard for himself. One thing led to another and he ended up being the God of Evil. What will his role in Marvel's live action adaptation? Probably something similiar, we know he's the main baddie.

Who does Brannagh want to bring this evil character to life? Try Josh Hartnett. IESB sources say Hartnett has met with Brannagh as well and he is currently on a very short list to play the villain in the film."

Sure ok Josh Hartnett, why not. Josh turned in a great performance in Black Hawk Down and oh, he hasnt done anything note worthy since then. But Josh is a talented actor who I think could pull this role off with out giving it the stupid jester like feel.

IESB did mention that this is not set in concrete so if the paparazi snap pictures of Josh jogging and then ask him quickly about Thor and he mentions "You bet your ass", dont take that seriously.

Josh Harnett is totally wrong for the part - you want someone who can go from normal to totally twisted in the blink of an eye - someone like a young Gary Oldman or Malcolm McDowell, or possibly Alan Rickman. Shaman suggested Daniel Day Lewis (though honestly I could never really see him accepting the role - would be cool performance though, he's another brilliant actor.)

kencanada200x - I have to disagree with you on the RDJ call. He was PERFECTLY cast (almost too much so):

Tony Stark - rich, famous, brilliant, eccentric, cocky (borderline arrogant at times), SLIGHT acohol abuse problem.

Robert Downey Jr. - rich, famous, brilliant, eccentric, cocky (borderline arrogant at times), SLIGHT acohol and various substances abuse problem.

...it was if he was born to play the part (and I HATE saying that certain actors are PERFECT for certain parts, but in this case - hmmmm....)

Loki is a twisted little brat inside the body of a full-grown man with the power of a god. I have yet to see anything Harnett has done that would convince me he's even CLOSE to capable of pulling all that off!

don't forget about Ledger in the Dark Knight. People didn't think he would pull it off at first either. Plus I thought Hartnett was good in Lucky Number Sleven as well. But I thought Loki was an older man?

Hartnett seems more like Bryan Hitch's Loki from the Ultimates 2, yeah!

...and for the record, I had no doubt about Ledger. The man was willing to take risks and lay it all on the line - the sign of a truly dedicated actor!

Don't make the Heath Ledger to Josh Hartnett comparison. Not disrespect to Josh, but he's not the actor Heath was.

You know who is ... Joseph Gordon Levitt. Great young actor (Loki is the youner brother of Thor) and has the correct build.

Discuss.

First, how many people thought Heath Ledger was right for the part of the joker when it was first rumored.
Second, I know Hartnett isn't of the same caliber, but I would trust the people making the film especially the guys at Marvel because they have been spot on recently.
I for one think he could be great and to the guy who said Oldman, McDowell, and Rickman, I didn't think Loki was old enough to be Thor's dad.

I for one (like I said before) had NO problem with Ledger.

'Recently' doesn't mean 'forever' (and for the record, they HAVE dropped the ball - 'Punisher: War Zone', the Fantastic Four series, Spiderman 3... shall I continue?)

I said (and I QUOTE), "...someone LIKE A YOUNG Gary Oldman or Malcolm McDowell, or possibly Alan Rickman..." While I'd love to see any of those actors in the role, I realize they are not the right age - that's why I said "LIKE".

kencananda200x - Why should we give someone a chance when they haven't proven themselves? Are you saying we should only be demanding when it comes to the major characters, but as to the supporting cast, we should let our expectations slide? A movie is not just about who's in the lead, it's about the entire world that's been created around that lead and the supporting characters that fill up that world and interact with the lead. Care MUST be taken in creating ALL aspects, or you wind up with a half-assed POS!

I have faith in whoever Branagh picks. Sure it's his first big budget action flick, but the man has a sense of scope when it comes to what he wants for this film. To loganoneil; Gary Oldman is by far my favorite actor and he could knock any role out of the park (man crush, anyone?). Sure, Josh Harnett, seems like kind of an odd pick... By Odin's beard, only time will tell.(that was my lame attempt at humor, feel free to point and laugh)

I agree, the first 'Punisher' was pretty good (a HELLUVA a lot better than that POS with Dolf Ludgren!). This last one however was nothing more than an over-glorified video game!

You SERIOUSLY liked Spiderman 3?! Tobey and Kirstin aside (you already know my feeling on them), the 'Disco-Stu' Peter Parker scene alone was enough to make me want to vomit... and lynch Raimi... or lynch Raimi and vomit on his charred corpse! There were too many characters to fully develop a coherent storyline (yes, Sandman was touching but really a waste of space that didn't really move the plot along). ...and they KILLED Eddie Brock and the symbiote - WTF?!!!!!

Don't get me started on 'The Fantastic Fiasco'...!

kencanada200x - speaking of which, yer' boy Lesnar's going up for 'the big enchilada' against Frank Mir in July in UFC. I take it you'll be rooting for 'the enormous one'?

Connor's Lizard woud be cool (they've been @#$-ing around with his character for 3 movies now!). Uh, you DO know that Iceman and Firestar were only in a cartoon (and technically Iceman is 'X-Man' territory...), right?

YOU FORGET ABOUT WHEN THEY WERE IN THE COMIC BOOK
FIRESTAR ICEMAN AN SPIDER-MAN,
MARVEL STUDIOS CAN DO ANY CROSS OVER ANY CAMEO THEY WANT
I WAS THERE WHEN A SONY GUY TRY TO SAY THEY OWN SPIDER MAN AND TAKE HIM, I HAD TO THROW THE GUY OUT OF THE BUILDING SOME LAWYER FOR SONY

LESNAR ALL READY LOST TO FRANK MIR I WAS THERE WHEN IT HAPPEN NOW THE REMATCH I HOPE IS NOT A RERUN

Lesnar's a BEAST, but he needs to really develop his ground game. I know, I know, he's a HELLUVA' wrestler, but going up against someone who's skilled in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, he'll wind up in another lock (just like last time) PROVIDED Mir can survive Lesnar's 'ground-and-pound' (Mir was getting his ASS kicked... like I said - he's a BEAST!). If he does that, he's gonna' OWN the UFC!
kencanada200x
kencanada200x - 3/11/2009, 11:07 AM
BECAUSE OF MARVEL STUDIOS, TONY STARK WAS IN HULK, NICK FURY WAS IN IRON, WHEN ITS UNDER MARVEL STUDIOS ANY CAMEO COULD BE MADE,OTHER COMPANY'S ARE FALLING IN LINE IF THEY WANT TO DO A MARVEL MOVIE, SONY ARE TRYING TO FIGHT THAT
AND HAD THE BALLS TO CLAIM RIGHTS TO SPIDER-MAN

LIKE HOW WB GOT THE RIGHTS TO DC WHICH THEY SHOULD HAVE NEVER LET HAPPEN, WB CAN SELL SUPERMAN TO MARVEL AND DC COULD DO NOTHING ABOUT IT

Dunno, it's not up to me on how 'Thor' goes (I wish it was...). I can see the whole Don Blake/Thor duality thing working (unlike a lot of other fanboys), but it has to be done carefully or else you wind up with another POS 'The Incredible Hulk Returns' made-for-TV movie

Oh great... Hartnett as Loki, Gyllenhaal as prince of persia and Mathiew Lillard in...in... ANYTHING!!! WTF is wrong with Hollywood?!?!?!?!?!

If they want to "nickleodeon" this movie, why not go with TALENT like idk, Ben Foster or Elijah Wood or like Matt1212 said, Joseph Gordon Levitt?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I say get ADULTS to play the characters and not 30 year old teens!!! DANIEL DAY LEWIS ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the shout out loganoneil :) And Ken... with all do respect... "THEY SHOULD HAVE GIVEN THAT PART TO BROCK LESNAR OR NATHAN JONES".. lay off wrestling will ya? I mean enjoy the show and all but there is an incredibly LOGICAL reason why they are wrestling and NOT acting (unless they're part has no dialog whatsoever). K?
