Marvel Studios held the world premiere of Thor: Love and Thunder in Hollywood last night, and following those glowing social media reactions, we have some intriguing comments from the red carpet.
It's been confirmed that Jaimie Alexander will reprise the role of Lady Sif in the blockbuster, marking the first time we've seen her in the MCU since 2013's Thor: The Dark World. While she made a brief cameo in Loki courtesy of the TVA, the character's last appearance in this world came when she delivered the Power Stone to The Collector alongside Volstagg.
There was no mention of Sif in Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, or Avengers: Endgame, leaving fans to wonder what became of her. Well, while answers are now finally on the horizon, they may be a little different to what many fans are expecting...or even hoping for!
Talking at the premiere, Alexader said that, when it came to her Thor: Love and Thunder return, "For this movie, I didn't have to train. And you'll see why."
What does that mean?
It's safe to say it could point to Sif not seeing any action in the blockbuster. Alternatively, Taika Waititi may be planning to do the same thing he did with The Warriors Three in Thor: Ragnarok where two of them, Fandral and Volstagg, were killed by Hela before they even had a chance to lift their swords. A similar demise for Sif would obviously mean Alexander didn't need to do any training.
Another popular theory online is that Sif might be pregnant! Your guess is as good as ours when it comes to who the father is, but if the Asgardian ends up being Valkyrie's Queen, it's possible the two women may be having a child together. Well, unless she plans to show up in a post-credits scene to tell the God of Thunder she's having his kid.
If Waititi does intend to kill Sif (perhaps as a way to drive home what a credible threat Gorr is), then the backlash is likely to be vocal. However, after such a long time on the sidelines, we just hope to see the hero get a decent role here.
Directed by Taika Waititi, the movie stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Russell Crowe, Jaimie Alexander, Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, and Sean Gunn among others.
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to be released in theaters on July 8, 2022.
