THOR: RAGNAROK possible retcon/reboot?

Could THOR: RAGNAROK potentially give us the gods we deserve?

I like many other Thor fans am absolutely psyched for THOR: RAGNAROK! The upcoming film has been confirmed to have Surtur, Hela, Fenris and Skurge, some of Thor's greatest villains ever which is making people think this will finally be the epic film we always wanted, but i am also excited for a different reason.

A RETCON

I know what you are probably thinking and usually i would agree because retcons for the most part are horrible things that ruin continuity and bring about unneeded and unwanted change, but in this case a retcon is just what the Dr. (Donald Blake) ordered.
The Thor films though not bad have not been as great as they could be and TDW left many fans dreams of a mythological LOTResque franchise crushed after it portrayed the dark elves as space ship flying aliens.
You may think that a retcon is not needed and that Ragnarok should simply be better than the last two movies but continue down the same road, to that i say you are clearly missing the point of what was wrong with the films from the beginning. The MCU has taken the divine out of Asgardians making them simple aliens, if this continues we can expect Thor and his mythos to be shoved aside in favour of GOTG and other cosmic stories because asgardian aliens will be no longer needed, Ragnarok however can fix this.

RAGNAROK

Ragnarok literally means Twilight of the gods, but THOR 3 could turn it into the birth of the gods. In the comic arc THOR DISASSEMBLED Ragnarok happens and the nine realms are destroyed but afterwards Thor ressurects himself from the dead and using the Odinforce brings the gods back to life! This is exactly what could be done with THOR 3 as it would provide a convenient way to make the asgardians gods once again, the only problem is thinking of an excuse for why they were not gods in the first two films.

EXCUSES

Thankfully for us there are many ways Marvel could explain away the mortallity of the norse gods while furthuring the story.

1. The eternals are rumoured to appear in the upcoming film so perhaps they or their masters the celestials stole the aesir's divinity.

2. Hela could have something to do with it, perhaps she took their divinity during a past ragnarok.

3.  Perhaps the four abstracts took their divinity and put it in the soul stone.

In conclusion THOR: RAGNAROK is a great opportunity to retcon the aesir back to being gods and makes a whole lot of sense considering we are getting surtur.

Interesting. I have to say, i didn't think of the MCU Asgardians as aliens. I think they can keep them as they are and still portray them as more Godly. They just need to add more depth and majesty to the nine realms. And really present how powerful Thor is.

@TheManWithoutFear - I feel Thor will be the only avenger to go past phase 3 w the potential to explore the nine realms(plus hemsworths bombs outside of marvel)

It's fine the way it is. Thor doesn't need to be an actual god.

I would LOVE to see this as I am among many who have been disappointed by the MCU Asgard, the un-godliness of the Asgardians and never seeing the true power of Thor. C'mon Marvel go for it. Fix it. You got Dr Strange on the way so don't hold back anymore!
