Mark Ruffalo Likens The 'Banner/Thor Dynamic In THOR: RAGNAROK To MIDNIGHT RUN

In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Mark Ruffalo name-checked hilarious '80s flick Midnight Run when desribing the dynmamic between his Bruce Banner and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) as they zip around the Nine Realms. “There’s a little bit of Midnight Run, with [Charles] Grodin and [Robert] De Niro,” said Ruffalo. "I feel like that’s kind of where we’re heading with this relationship between Thor and Banner.” Sounds like we can expect a bit of squabbling! Ruffalo was then asked to elaborate on his earlier revelation that Thor: Ragnarok would be a road movie. “It is a universal road movie – that’s where we’re heading,” he explained. “It’s not where you'd think it will be, so it’s not your classic road movie but it has that structure, I think."

Ruffalo then went on to talk about what we could expect from the highly anticipated team-up between Thor and Hulk. "I love Chris [Hemsworth], and it’s not an accident that we’ve been put together because we have a good time together and we goof off. The fact that we’re moving towards the smart-comedic bent plays into our relationship.” Ruffalo was then asked if he was looking forward to visiting Asgard, Thor's home world. “[Am I looking forward to that?] Hells, yeah,” replied Ruffalo excitingly. What do you think about Ruffalo's comments? Are you excited to see Thor: Ragnarok explore the Nine Realms?

I care about characters mainly, plot never interest me which is why I love this concept, because both characters are in close quarters with one another, so it is essentially nothing but dialogue and banter between the two. And considering Taika's work on 'What we do in the shadows' I think he'll handle at least this aspect of the film with grace. And with a unique visionary like Taika, the trip itself will be so weird, cosmic, eventful, fun, and probably funny. Keep your shirt on whiners, there's a way to do Thor with lots of comedy while being faithful. Ragnarok on it's own is ambitious if it is going to be the "winter soldier" of phase 3, throw in buddy cop Hulk and Thor cosmic road trip and I will bend over backwards for this movie.

I'm really hoping the movie is good, in my opinion it has all the makings of a Marvel classic. I just have this strong feeling in my body that it's going to exceed expectations.

a great episode of flight of the conchords that Taika wrote and directed. I think his stuff is "out there" and clever.

Also, here's the ending of his film Boy and it comes off very indy and I thought it was really cool.

Maybe we'll actually get to see the nine realms this time. Or at least more of them.

Well I'm sold. Take my two favorite Marvel superheroes and put them in a road movie (which is exactly my favorite kind of Thor story) and say no more I'm there. Take my forty dollars.
