After some underwhelming years of Comic-Con (although last year DC came with thunder), this year was supposed to be the year that blew us all away, and boy did they deliver. Marvel of course showed stuff, even though most of us didn't see it, while DC brought out their big guns with Justice League and Wonder Woman. However Marvel and DC weren't the only ones there, with WB releasing Kong and Fantastic Beasts trailers.
Since there was so much to come out, I will be splitting it in parts. In this part, I will be covering the WORST of this year's con.
THE WORST OF COMIC CON 2016
THE NEW 'THOR: RAGNAROK' LOGO
At first, I was okay with it although a bit confused why they decided to go with such a strange design. However over time I have grown to really dislike the new logo. Ragnarok is supposed to be about the 'end of all things' and have an apocalyptic vibe to it, but instead we got a start screen from the new MegaMan game.
Previous Thor logos were great. They had a cool design and totally felt natural to the story and world that Thor is in. It gave me a sense of the kind of world I'm about to go into. It had a very Norse mythology feel to it, and so did the original Thor 3 design.
Perfect. Each has a particular vibe to it and had a Norse world feel to them.
The new logo just seems to out of place from the previous ones.
Even in the other MCU sequels like Iron Man or Avengers, they have looked similar to the previous one even with small changes.
I don't get the appeal of the new design when it's supposed to be the end of the world in the Norse mythology world. I don't get that feel from the new logo. Clearly Marvel isn't going to go full on dark, epic, end of the world but instead a 80's themed Thor/ Hulk road-trip/ buddy cop movie, which why call it Ragnarok in the first place?
The movie could be exactly what I want from Ragnarok; a dark, grand and epic movie about the end of the world, but I am NOT getting that feeling from the new design. I know it's just a logo and doesn't represent the movie, but my point still stands about it not giving off a Ragnarok 'apocalyptic' feel.
Maybe Marvel chooses and pays their design team the same as their composers?
Bring on the haters!
GOTHAM SEASON 3 TRAILER
I don't care about Gotham. I haven't even watched Season 2. I hate how it is just using everything from Batman without Batman. iI really wanted this trailer to engage me and get me interested in the show so I would tune in for Season 3. However it went a different way. I'm sorry this trailer is horrible. Added with an over-the-top Jada Pinkett Smith and bad music, this instead of doing what a trailer is supposed to do which is get you excited, made me angry and disappointed.
And you know Season 3 is doing? Court of Owls. But that's not the biggest problem, it's what they look like.
This is the Court of Owls in Gotham...
And this is Talon in Gotham...
Yeah, [frick] Gotham!
ARROW SEASON 5 TRAILER
Arrow used to be one of my favourite shows on TV...until they decided to follow Tumblr as inspiration for episodes instead of the comic books. Nothing in this trailer got me excited at all. Diggle AGAIN being pushed back for Felicity, More terrible flashbacks, Mr. Terrific is just god awful, new characters that I don't give a shit about and probably won't, why can't the show go back to just Green Arrow without a team? The rumour is that 'big villain' of this season is Prometheus. A man that took down the entire Justice League is the big villain for….Green Arrow. I seriously can't wait for them to [frick] him up. Especially judging from his costume…
God the CW are the WORST at costume design.
And lets face it – it's going to be another season about Olicity. Just like Gotham, this trailer only decreased my excitement for Season 5.
But hey, at least Willa Holland is still there.
That just about goes it for my WORST of Comic-Con 2016. The next part will be on the stuff that I thought was mediocre/ didn't get me excited/ didn't really care about, ending with the BEST of Comic-Con.
