THOR: RAGNAROK Director Taika Waititi Reveals Which Marvel Comics Villain Was Cut From The Movie
Thor: Ragnarok introduced a lot of new characters to the MCU but there could have been one more! Hit the jump to find out which comic book villain very nearly made the cut according to Taika Waititi...
Thor: Ragnarok is packed full of classic comic book villains, including Hela, Skurge, Surtur, and The Grandmaster. However, in the video below, director Taika Waititi reveals that there could have been one more! Playing a game of "Thor Villain or IKEA Furniture?" at the press junket for the threequel, the filmmaker confirms that the villainous Dark God Perrikus was at one point set to appear in the movie.
For those of you unfamiliar with the relatively obscure character, he was created by Dan Jurgens and John Romita Jr. in their acclaimed Thor run back in the 90s. After his wife was killed in battle, he sets his sights on the God of Thunder and Asgard and actually manages to beat the hero and (temporarily) destroy all of Asgard. So, why exactly was the villain cut from the Marvel Studios threequel?
Waititi doesn't elaborate but it sounds like Perrikus could have been a substitute for Hela, Surtur, or possibly both. That would have been a big mistake and while it would have been interesting seeing this character brought to the big screen, the villains we got were pretty damn amazing.
