Marvel Studios Reportedly Casting A Transgender Female Character For Upcoming Phase 4 Project

We're not sure if it's for one of the big or small screen projects, but Marvel Studios is reportedly searching for a transgender actress to play an unknown character in Phase 4. Could it be Sera, perhaps?

Marvel Studios recently promised to be more inclusive when it comes to future casting decisions (we already got some positive updates at SDCC), and now the studio is said to be searching for a transgender actress to play an unnamed character in Phase 4.

We're not sure if it's for a movie or one of the Disney+ shows, but Geeks Worldwide reckons filming is scheduled for 2020, which doesn't really narrow it down very much, to be honest!

The character is code-named "Jessica," and Marvel is reportedly looking for "a transwoman actress of any ethnicity in her 20s to 30s" to play her. GWW reckons it could be Sera (the Anchorite that hooks up with Angela in the comics), which would make sense as she's currently the only major established transwoman Marvel Comics character.

Could she be introduced as Valkyrie's queen in Thor: Love and Thunder? That's pure speculation, but it's as good a guess as any!

@nikgrid - How is Star Wars comparable to Marvel in terms of representation?

@WakandanQueen -
Marvel: Releases a critically acclaimed blockbuster that touches on issues of African identity and is the first big budget film to explore Afro-futurism in its designs
Star Wars: Releases a flop movie where Gambino tries to [frick] a droid
Totally comparable!

@tmp3 - I mean, it's nice to see Star Wars expanding its diversity, as well as giving women more prominent roles, but it doesn't compare to Marvel giving the opportunity to female directors, black directors and actors and asian directors and actors to helm a massive Hollywood blockbuster.

Would probably open the door to a lot of trans actors, which would mean a lot to a lot of people, but I don't know how much I trust "Geeks Worldwide" as a source.

I'm indifferent. Happy for any representation some will get out of this. I'm sure it will be fine casting and good writing for the role. And to those whose jimmies are rustled by this... Lol. Build a bridge and get over it.

Fanboys: "We're not bigoted. We just don't like the movies changing the characters!"

Studio: "We're looking at casting a black / female / gay / transgender actor for-"

Fanboys: "BOO!!"

Studio: "You don't even know what role it's for."

Fanboys: "STOP CALLING US BIGOTS!"

@Spock0Clock - To be fair, fanboys don't really have a problem with casting women or black people. I really doubt any fanboy wants Wonder Woman played by a dude.
