UPDATE: Anthony Hopkins DID NOT Bash Co-Star Chris Hemsworth on Thor Set

According to The New York daily news, Anthony Hopkins has been causing tension of the set. Make the jump.

With most of the filming done, thankfully, The New York daily has reported that the all-father, Odin, Anthony Hopkins, has been criticizing Thor, Chris Hemsworth's acting ability.

UPDATE
As many thought, GossipCop has just confirmed that this info, originated at NY Daily, is completely false.

Gossip Cop reached out to a Marvel rep, who called the Daily News’ article, “100% false.”

But that’s not all. We also contacted Hopkins’s wife, Stella Hopkins, who has been fielding calls for the legendary star. She told Gossip Cop the report was a “horrific, vile lie,” and that they are going to “talk to [their] lawyers.”

SOURCE

"Anthony has not tried to hide his disapproval of Chris' acting skills," the insider says. "Chris is definitely the least-experienced actor on set, but he's trying. He respects Anthony a great deal, and it looks like he's trying to grin and bear all of his criticism."

The same can't be said of director Kenneth Branagh, who has apparently become annoyed after enduring Hopkins' criticism as well.

"Anthony keeps complaining that they're shooting too many scenes inside the L.A. studio and not enough on location," says the source, adding that the film, which is slated for release next year, has so many special effects that the cast is often in a studio against a green screen.

"He isn't used to this kind of work, and his pessimism is really starting to wear everyone down."

Reps for Hopkins and the film denied that the actor is displeased with Hemsworth and Branagh, but our insider adds that there have been other incidents of strife on the "Thor" production. According to the source, much of the cast and crew headed to New Mexico for a four-week shoot that has turned into six — and may go even longer.

"Everyone is cranky and frustrated that it's taking so long," says the spy. "But it's a very high-tech movie, and it just takes time to get things right."

Well it seems that tweet from Gregory Littley, in my recent Thor roundup, that many doubted, may be true.

"stress on #Thor set...I'm hearing ppl are not getting along with Sir Anthony Hopkins + clashing with Dir. Kenneth Branagh 'vision'

"Hearing gr8 things abt Chris Hemsworth in #THOR - The cast+crew are now in New Mexico for the next 5wks , filming 'crucial' scenes.

Could be a good thing for the film, when Thor & Odin have differences, but still he shouldn't criticize the guy. I'm starting to think Brian Blessed would have been better for Odin.

thats weak man. maybe he should become a director...thats what it sounds like he wants to do with this movie. after all, its the director's job to criticize the acting and to decide where to film...NOT the actors'.

sounds like hopkins has gotten full of himself in his old age...

Overbearing. Isn't that what Odin is suppose to be? Maybe Hopkins is doing the Daniel Day-Lewis and sticking in character.

Or maybe Hopkins doesn't want another flop like Wolfman.

Actually this maybe a great move by Hopkins. If Hemsworth is struggling this might be a way to add realism to difficult part of the movie. Make some real tension that will translate onto the screen. Hopkins is experienced enough and smart enough to do something like that.

If its true, could be one of 2 things. Hopkins is moaning unnecessarily, or Hopkins is moaning necessarily and Henmsworth just isn't acting very well. Past reports have always said Hopkins is very easy to work with and supportive, so maybe he has every right to speak up.

Not really a good idea to get into it with the star of the movie.I'm getting the feeling he may not be returning for sequels.I don't give a damn if he is Anthony Hopkins, no actor or director is going to want to work with someone who is constantly criticizing them.

Or this could just be blown out of proportion. I've seen numerous instances where creative people clash with their ideas a little, it's totally normal. But the press loves a story and they sensationalize. Imagine how many "James Cameron is a dick" stories they could've told from the set of Avatar.

@MultiPurposePoni...I think you're thinking of the NY Post. It's uncanny how similar they are.

Everyone is jumping to conclusions. He might have an actual point. This is kind of a lop sided story to be blasting Sir Anthony Hopkins.

FateSucks - 3/31/2010, 8:28 AM
Funny story, Hopkins has done this before, more than once. Hopkins used to have the "bad boy" rep back in the day. With actors that follow "the method" we hear a lot about how they are this or that on set, and then after the film it all calms down.

Wasn't Gwyn and ScarJo supposed to be hating on each other during IM2? Didn't we hear this about Ed and several people, and only one suit was true in that case.

You're thinking of the NY Post...the Daily News is generally pretty good (10 Pulitzers!)and was the real-life model for the Daily Planet in the Chris Reeve flicks

if u look closely..it says PEOPLE...MORE THAN ONE PERSON IS CLASHING WITH HOPKINS...let us remember that this guy didnt even know who thor was...so maybe he dosnt like the way chris does thor...where he is unfamiliar with who thor even is...chris hemsworth got the staring role of this movie 4 a reason...hopkins got it 4 his name...remember that

Dude, it's all rumor. People don't get along in every job in the world. Get over it. I don't give a shit as long as the movie is good and releases on schedule. Branagh is the boss, let him deal with his cast.

i would listen to guy. he is an award winning actor and i'm sure he knows what he's talking about. i would have never thought before he would play a role in a CBM but i would consider his input. he's been through alot of movies so he should know what separates the good from the bad, the good from the great. for all we kno he could be complaining that the movie is coming out to be somewhat soft and cheesy. maybe he's trying to toughen it up (which i'm sure all of us want).

I'm gonna have to side with Multi and Ror. I've always heard the best about Hopkins, and whenever he has a probelm with a film or an actor, he is usually right.

Case in point, he did not like the direction Wolfman went, and he was right, it was not what it could have been, so much potential lost.

Hemsworth is a young inexperienced actor, Hopkins is a classically trained actor, and probably one of the best alive. He has the most experience on set and if he calls something out, we may need to start worrying.

I ahve faith in Branagh, i enjoy every film he has put out, but I am leaning toward Hopkins on this one.

This isn't a matter of "jealousy" as someone said, Hopkins is one of the most respected actors alive.

I honestly wish Branagh had not given up directing King Lear for this, he had Hopkins cast as Lear, now THAT would have been a good movie.

"He respects Anthony a great deal, and it looks like he's trying to grin and bear all of his criticism."

If this is true, can you imagine how much that would suck? You're Hemsworth, and you're excited to be playing this character, but this older actor, who you respect, constantly criticizes you.It has to be uncomfortable for the other actors, as well. It's also gotta be annoying for Branagh, too.If the onset morale is down, that's going to hurt the quality of the movie.

Even if he's right or wrong, it isn't up to an actor to point out another actor's shortcomings. That's the director's job.I really hope things come together.

I like Sir Anthony but he was never my pic for Odin anyway. I would love to see Malcolm McDowell for the All-Father Odin. To me he is Mr. SciFi to me anyway.

All HAIL THE ALL-FATHER ODIN!

chris hemsworth is gonna portray thor the way HE sees fit...the way that he auditioned and won the role over..the way the director liked when he picked him..the way the director directs him 2...jus because hopkins has been around longer and made more movies dont giv him the right 2 tell another actor how 2 act...

spock@ yea good pick..its gonna be weird seeing a short fat odin...who knows..maybe hopkins will be the weak link in this movie...

I agree with Multi, I think Hopkins just doesn't want to be associated with another shit movie caused by a directors arrogance. Not to say Branagh is arrogant or nothing. I actually like that he is pushing people to give their best. And Hemsworth has got to be so green surrounded by all that acting experience.
LazySmurf
LazySmurf - 3/31/2010, 8:54 AM
What experience does Hemsworth have besides 5 min in Star Trek and tv show Far and Away?
biggcess
biggcess - 3/31/2010, 8:56 AM
Not to knock the guy, but time's have changed and he ain't getting any younger. If he's complaining this much about green screen, he would've hated being in a film like 300. Which was epic and he would've killed in it.

Maybe, he's just past his prime and needs to settle for arthouse films with lots of dialog (sp?).

@XmutantX I agree with you all the way. Marvel and Kenneth knowss what they want out of Chris. All Anthony has to do is his job.

But, again, this little fiasco could have been over exaggerated.
