Back in January of last year, we learned that The Bear breakout Ayo Edebiri was set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe when she landed an undisclosed role in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie.

Edebiri has only briefly spoken about her involvement in the Phase 5 film but while chatting to Backstage Magazine about her voice-role as April O'Neil in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, and while she did express her excitement for the project and her MCU journey ahead, she didn't disclose any details about her character.

“I love being a sponge. I just want to learn as much as possible. I’m excited [for ‘Thunderbolts’] because I don’t know; and to me, that’s cool. I feel like those are always the situations that I’ve benefited from the most. If I don’t know what I’m going to learn, that’s the best possible scenario for me.”

Now, we may know who Edebiri will play.

According to scooper Can We Get Some Toast, the Bottoms star has been cast as a character named Erin, who is Valentina Allegra de Fontaine's (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) assistant. Erin is said to be "exceptional at her job, even surprising Val with how good she is at getting things done.

There are several Erins in the comics, but none that really fit this description, so we'd say this character was most likely created for the movie.

Though other characters might well be added, the Thunderbolts roster currently consists of Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko).

Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine will put the team together, and may also be partially responsible for Sentry's creation. Harrison Ford will replace the late William Hurt as Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, who may wind up transforming into the Red Hulk.

The Walking Dead and Invincible creator Kirkman recently came right out and said: "My good friend Steven Yeun is playing the Sentry in a movie."

“Yeah, he called me, he went in for a costume fitting. I hope I’m not… I don’t think this is a spoiler or anything that will get anybody in trouble. I don’t know, maybe. We’ll see. I don’t care. I don’t work for Marvel. What are they going to do to me? He called me and he said, 'I just came back from a costume fitting for the Sentry. I guess I only do superheroes that are yellow and blue.' He said he was at the costume fitting and was like, 'Aww, crap. I forgot Invincible was yellow and blue.'"

Jake Schreier (Robot and Frank, Dave) is set to direct, with Black Widow scribe Eric Pearson penning the script.

The Hollywood strikes recently resulted in Thunderbolts being pushed from December 20, 2024, to July 25, 2025.

She's cool. Loved Bottoms! Most underrated movie of 2023. Marshawn needs to be in more movies.

As far as Thunderbolts i feel her character is likely going to he wasted. Hope im wrong.

@Vigor - Maybe when they do the real Thunderbolts.

@ObserverIO - my pet theory was that thunderbolts2 (if it were made) would more mirror the comics team. I actually respect that they're utilizing the characters they already established in the mcu, for a team, instead of leaving these actors/characters hanging

@Vigor - STILL convinced Zemo will turn up with a team, the whole theme of his thus far has been going after Super Soldiers and Val creates a full team of them...

...Just a case for me till I hear differently of who he will turn up with and will the likes of Ghost and Taskmaster deffect to his side to create a master of evil type Thunderbolts iteration that the remaining heroes face off against in the final act.

@Apophis71 - I'd pay the price of 5 tickets to go see that. But they have sentry in this who is his own bag of crazy. I can't see them saving time for dealing with sentry or the void, AND have time for Zemo and his shenanigans

@Vigor - Rumors suggest Sentry won't be in the last act at all. The way I could see this going down it the team is first sent to track down and secure Sentry in the first act prior to the main mission/story getting going...

...kinda like how Adam Warlock set things going in the first act of GotG3 in some ways...

...but the rumor is he is whisked off to another dimension of sorts in the middle of the film which opens the question of who the MAIN antagonist will realy be if not Sentry.

@Apophis71 - The thing that bothers me is that even if Zemo shows up, he's very unlikely to wear the mask. And that may be a silly thing to be upset about (maybe?) but I don't know. Zemo's mask is important to his character. And they even made a big deal out of it in the Falcon amd Winter Soldier show. Only for him to wear it in one 15 second scene where he shoots some henchmen.

It was really disappointing for me, especially after Marvel made it look like Zemo was going to be the villain of the show and had him do that short video wearing the mask for comic con. Hell, even the end credits of the show had his mask all over it.

I don't know, I feel like they really dropped the ball with Zemo in the MCU thus far, and if they aren't willing to start doing him right then I'm not really interested in seeing any more of him.

@HammerLegFoot - And that was enough to fuel two generations of movies. Plus gas is expensive these days.

Awesome, excellent, pure brilliance, perfect casting, definitely getting that Heath Ledger dark knight/ Godfather part 2 vibes, Fans love that character, it's about time she got her own spin off. I'm hooked and sold, 4 billion at the box office, opening night, sequel confirmed, who is she playing again?
