THUNDERBOLTS: Rachel Weisz's Melina Vostokoff & Laurence Fishburne's Bill Foster Rumored To Return

A new rumor is claiming that both Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz) and Bill Foster (Laurence Fishburne) will return for Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts movie...

Marvel Studios has introduced quite a few characters to the MCU in big and small-screen projects over the years that we haven't seen since, but two supporting players from previous movies are now rumored to return for Thunderbolts.

According to Production Weekly (who has shared accurate scoops in the past, but have also been known to be wrong), both Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz) and Bill Foster (Laurence Fishburne) will appear in the upcoming team-up movie.

Foster was introduced in Ant-Man and the Wasp in a fairly minor role, and was last seen staying by Ava Starr/Ghost's side when she went on the run. Vostokoff, meanwhile, was the "wife" of Red Guardian and "mother" of Yelena Belova in Black Widow, so it does make sense that these characters would be involved in some capacity.

Will we see Foster assume the mantle of Goliath and Vostokoff suit-up as Iron Maiden as they have in the comic books? Given everything else going on in this movie we'd say it's unlikely, but you never know.

We have heard that filming is currently scheduled to begin in March, and casting is also underway for "a high-tech militia group that the Thunderbolts are going to fight in the film."

Though other characters might well be added, the Thunderbolts roster consists of Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko).

Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julie Louis Dreyfus) will put the team together, and rumor has it that she may also be partially responsible for Sentry's creation.

Lewis Pullman reportedly has the current offer to replace Steven Yeun as Sentry, but hasn't officially signed on for the role, so there may well be other actors in the mix.

Harrison Ford will replace the late William Hurt as Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, who may wind up transforming into the Red Hulk. Ayo Edebiri (The Bear, Bottoms) has reportedly been cast as a character named Erin, who is Allegra de Fontaine's assistant. Erin is said to be "exceptional at her job, even surprising Val with how good she is at getting things done."

Jake Schreier (Robot and Frank, Dave) is set to direct, with Black Widow scribe Eric Pearson penning the script.

@Kurban - can't believe someone used this movie as an example of something potentially better than more Tobey maguire and Andrew Garfield spidermen.

@Kurban - or possibly those with films still in their contracts which they can’t get out of as people begin to distance themselves with a sinking ship?

@TheVisionary25 - Yeh I kinda expect Red Guardian to not make it out alive if any are gonna die, him and John Walker/U.S. Agent having a full redemptive then at least presumed dead thing. Only ones entirely safe are Yelena and Bucky from being killed off as can see those two being on the New main Avengers roster after this.

TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 1/27/2024, 1:41 PM
Cool , glad to see them back if true.

Foster was fine in Ant Man & The Wasp with the relatively minor role he had but it does make sense he will be in this due to his connection with Ghost who is his surrogate daughter , same with Melina (who i enjoyed in BW) in regards to Yelena.

I can see them being moreso a cameo that possibly reintroduce the characters of Yelena & Ava and could setup their character arcs in the film.

Apophis71
Apophis71 - 1/27/2024, 1:48 PM
@TheVisionary25 - Be odd in regard to at least one of them if he didn't at least cameo, easier to have left out Melina if it was only Yelena but with Red Guardian too...

...as to if more than a cameo we'll see but they still haven't given much away about the main antagonists cos early on with rumors and increasingly since been fairly clear Sentry isn't it.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 1/27/2024, 1:52 PM
@Apophis71 - that’s true though I don’t see them breaking bad

It could be Val or she’s likely just a grey Amanda Waller type character.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 1/27/2024, 2:13 PM
@TheVisionary25 - Val playing a role on both sides I could see, could also see the 'high-tech militia group' this rumor includes could be working for Zemo and potentialy a couple like Ghost and Taskmaster could switch sides.

I mean there are deffo shades of suicide squad going on with Val sending a black-op team of these characters on a mission or two. First act by rumors involves Sentry so maybe that is a Val thing (ie she was behind creating him) they retrieve before the main mission but we will see. For Sentry to be at any point an antagonist brainwashing should be involved which has a Zemo link to civil war as has being against Super Soldiers (or could battle the team as not identifying them as on his side).

I get some of the negative comments regarding the team members but the major characters in it work well for fun how they interact with each other in the same way that sort of stuff sold the first Avenger movie. The open question remains how strong the actual plot is, how good the villain(s) are and if they do a good job landing the storyline (esp the final act which MCU hasn't got the best track record on).
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 1/27/2024, 2:26 PM
@Apophis71 - I don’t see anyone switching sides honestly but we’ll see.

I definitely think they’ll be retrieving Sentry from this high tech militia whoever they are until it’s revealed that Val was behind the creation of Sentry which will undeniably cause some issues.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 1/27/2024, 2:46 PM
@TheVisionary25 - Not a given any switching sides but those two are the bigger unknowns/potential loose canons. All the rest, regardles their pasts, are all the sort to be motivated to do the right thing even if it means going against orders. They are also two who have been on a villain form of Thunderbolts and/or Masters of Evil as has Goliath and Zemo so....

Just to say however Antman and the Wasp is one of two films I couldn't manage to watch from beginning to end in one sitting, realy struggled with it so more vague on motivations and personality of Ghost than any of the rest other than we literaly have no clue on Taskmaster as may as well have been a different character in Black Widow due to being controlled by pheromones or whatever.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 1/27/2024, 3:30 PM
@Apophis71 - thought Ghost was alright

One note definitely but given the circumstances of her possibly dying , made sense imo.

I do hope we flesh her out more in this hopefully

I def hope for this to do more to flesh certain characters (Ghost and Taskmaster particularly) and give them arcs and personality past what their circumstances were prior to this.

Damn, this place has really turned into a space to just spew hate, hasn't it?

Glad Weisz is back, hope it's not too small of a part, tho I realize her character wasn't brought over the MCU to be put in the spotlight like Yelena and Guardian. But I really liked what she did with what she was given in the BW movie.
