An intriguing new rumour about Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts is doing the rounds today, suggesting The Void’s role in the movie will be much grander in scale than we initially expected. Read on for details!

Earlier this week, The Walking Dead and Invincible creator Robert Kirkman confirmed two big rumours when he revealed that Steven Yeun will don a comic-accurate costume as the MCU’s Sentry in Thunderbolts.

Today, an intriguing new report has surfaced which claims the movie will deliver an unexpected take on The Void.

Rather than just being the Golden Guardian’s evil doppelgänger, it seems the villain will become an entire realm which the movie’s heroes are forced to travel into. That sounds like the sort of CG-heavy high-stakes final act we’ve come to expect from Marvel Studios, and it wouldn’t be at all surprising if not everyone makes it back alive.

Back in September, it was reported that The Sentry is initially going to be part of Val's Thunderbolts team during the first two acts before "something rips him away from them." Could that be this new manifestation of The Void? We’d say it’s likely.

Thunderbolts is shaping up to be a much different movie than than what fans initially expected. Despite featuring a roster that suggests the movie is primarily a sequel to Black Widow and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, The Sentry’s presence suggests this story will have major ramifications for the wider MCU.

Fingers crossed The Void looks better than the Quantum Realm, anyway!

In the comics, Steve Rogers was initially the only person the Super Soldier Serum worked on. Other government agencies struggled to create their own versions, and it was in the late 1940s that Project: Sentry was first dreamed up.

Meant to be 100,000 more powerful than the serum that created Captain America, the project ultimately got bogged down in red tape. However, years later, a meth addict called Robert Reynolds broke into the laboratory of one of the professors who worked on that and ingested the "Golden Sentry Serum" while looking for a fix.

With that, he gained the power of a million exploding suns, later becoming one of the Marvel Universe's greatest superheroes. There was a twist, though, as The Void - Reynolds' repressed personality - later emerged and took the form of a shadowy monster every bit as powerful as the Golden Guardian. It killed millions and continued to plague The Sentry in the years that followed.

Thunderbolts' confirmed cast members include Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Florence Pugh as Yelena Boleva, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and Steven Yeun in a mystery role now confirmed to be The Sentry.

Written by Eric Pearson and directed by Jake Schreier, Thunderbolts is currently set to be released in theaters on July 25, 2025.

@marvel72 - wow not surprised. It's just comic adaptation. Just let it be made first before judge it. Of CBMs don't interest you anymore just focus on other sister sites than come here and comment negative about it

You know I had somewhat of an idea for a sentry movie like this. Basically sentry and void were on HWR’s team during the multiversal war. Helped him win it. But after they learned of the TVA and his “sacred timeline” idea. They tried to stop him but were banished to the outside. Sentry would eventually escape, but his darker half would remain there and take over the nothingness, and we would get an oblivion like character.

@AmazingFILMporg - I don't think the problem is the lack of a-list characters. Just the lack of compelling characters.

The only one with a strong characterization is Bucky, but I just can't see any sort of character tension happen. And I think that's the glue that holds these team-up movies together

@AmazingFILMporg - GA liked Avengers, Iron Man, Captain America. Who in their right mind just throws all those characters away?
They thought they were invincible and had the Midas touch, everything their little creative brains came up with would be a hit.

To feiges credit he gave them an end. That's a ballsy move. He gave them a great end. Give him some credit

@AmazingFILMporg - I disagree with you here, Gotg was literally unknown and the team had significant impact with GA, that's because all those movies were character driven. I wished they get back into it rather than being slapstick for sake of it. Just let the characters drive the movie rather than the event.

@MochaKing - In phase 4 I liked Eternals, Shang Chi, Spiderman and DS MoM in movies(yet to watch the marvels). Externals could have been great if the acting of cersi was great towards end. Some more crisp editing and completely cutting of Kro for final act. That would have the character to appear in future movies a threat. Antman 3 Thor 4, were focusing in comedy and weirdness in the movie and didn't spend time to give characters sombre kind of justification to their actions. Bad editing and cgi

If GOTG was made today it would flop.

This isn't 2015 anymore!

"comic-accurate"

uhhhh, I'm afriad I have some bad news. This is going to be a one a done. Thunderbolts is just going to kill him off. Passing on this one as it looks like Black Widow 2 with some other characters in it to make it their own version of Suicide Squad.

I hope they stay true to the source material and use the Sentry's one weakness to defeat him.

@ChocolateMousse - Say what you really want to say. Because he's Asian and Sentry in the comics was Caucasian. That's the real issue you have. Because look at how jacked Simu Liu got for Shang Chi.

@SonOfAGif - Hemsworth already played a muscled jock before he was Thor. And Evans was already in bunch of action movies.

What are you talking about??
IronMan616
IronMan616 - 11/18/2023, 10:07 PM
@SonOfAGif - yes, he's Asian and about 5'6" . He can get jacked all he wants, but he'll still be a manlet.

@SonOfAGif - Hemsworth was in good shape when I saw him as George Kirk in Star Trek (never seen him in his Aussie soap opera before that) and you should see his powerful work outs he does to build on that. All that was necessary was Pratt just to lose a bit of weight, which he did. They actually made a great joke about it in Parks & Recreation that all he did was give up beer and lost 30lbs lol. On another note, P&R is a great show if you haven't seen it.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 11/19/2023, 10:47 AM
@Sabre81 - if I recall Chris looked like a surfer kid in the soap, not jacked by any means but easier to see him getting toned up than many as already at least looked fit and not flabby at all but been a while and in the main had stopped watching Home and Away by then (drifted off it after leaving home for the second time in 92' but would occassionaly catch the odd one here and there).

I get folk wanting comic accurate characters, but as the MCU has already done a good guy that turns out to e bad Superman type going for a Super Saiyan take on a character of that power level I can get.

We'll see if it works or not but never thought they would try Sentry at all cos the whole drug addict stuff, the insomnia storyline and how to handle the void let alone someone that OP seemed a stretch to pull off in live action period let alone an MCU one. As such thing it is possible Sentry was on the list they drew up of characters they wouldn't be introducing direct from source, like Scarlet Scarab and the villain name in their latest film, that writers could use for what are basicaly original characters and I can cope with that but get why fans of a given character would have probs with it.
Sabre81
Sabre81 - 11/19/2023, 1:24 PM
@Apophis71 - Wow, did you actually watch 'Home and Away'? Fvck, I thought my insomnia was bad when soaps used to come on at 3am.

Kidding. I love your reply to me and thank you that the fact it is your knowledge of this (and many other characters I've noticed recently) surpasses the normal chat on here. You really seem to know your stuff...look forward to seeing many more of your posts to this site which have actual merit and truth instead of blatant opinion and hate.

I will look up those things about Sentry (and why not to use him) in this next movie.

Thank you, good Sir.

@Sabre81 - UK, and we could only recieve 3 channels and one of those was... not one we watched very often at all. That time of day it was Home and Away or Neighbours basicaly until they wised up and stopped trying to compete directly (one switched order between their Aussie soap and the news if memory serves). It was also straight after childrens TV and just before the news so...

@Apophis71 - I'm in the UK too, I watched Neighbours for a good bit when Jason & Kylie were in it! Think I even watched 'El Dorado' if you remember that in the 90s, my goodness, it was so bad!!! The 'bad man' character 'Marcus Tandy'? He was evil and should play Dr, Doom ;-)

My cousin moved to Edinburgh and, because of which side he lived in the Castle, couldn't get Channel 5 until it went digital.

@Sabre81 - We couldn't even get Channel four when it launched and same with 5, had to wait for digital at my parents :D

...and yeh watched El Dorado too, lol, and as you will know what I'm talking about, extremely rare we watched BBC 2, especialy after channel four came along as the freqency shuffle meant reception was poor.

@Apophis71 - I still have nightmares of the static picture featuring the young girl playing tic-tac-toe- whilst BBC was off service. Why were the puppets there?!?!? Where they playing against her?? ARRRRGGGHHHH!!! lol

Going by the casting, I'm expecting Sentry to be treated the same way Gunn treated Adam Warlock.
