Prepare Yourself For A 'Dark' TRANSFORMERS 4

Prepare Yourself For A 'Dark' TRANSFORMERS 4

If you want less jokes and a more serious tone in the next Transformers film, you may be in luck. Mark Wahlberg says you're on the right track when it comes to the two adjectives people often use to describe a new entry in an existing film franchise.

So far, we know Transformers 4 will have a time-skip, picking up four (or five years depending on who you ask) after the events of Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Joining Mark Wahlberg will be relatively new Hollywood faces, Brenton Thwaites and Nicola Peltz in a film that's been described as being smaller than its predecessors. There's also unconfirmed talk from the Hasbro side of production that even the Autobots and Decepticons could undergoe slight redesigns. Besides these tidbits little else is known about the film. In the recent issue of Total Film Magazine, Mark Wahlberg reiterated some things that were previously known like the film is a reboot and that he's excited about it and that the film will be something special. But when the followup question was if the film will be darker and grittier, Wahlberg let slip, "Yeah...I don't want to get fired before I get started, but you're on the right track!" While I think a lot of moviegoers may be nearing "dark and gritty" fatigue, this might actually be a good development for a Transformers franchise that's given fans some pretty silly comic relief and one-punch humor. Is this the direction you'd like the Transformers franchise to go? Sound off in the comment section below. You can read more from Wahlberg in the latest issue of Total Film Magazine out now.

I'd rather it be dark and gritty and the shit they've put out before. The lame jokes and lame humor really bothered me.

I'm hoping this is a semi-reboot of the series, where they don't mention the old movies and start a new trilogy.

Indeed, get rid of the dogs humping and crap and maybe we can talk. Who am I kidding...this is Michael Bay we're talking about. However I do like Wahlberg, so I wish him the best in this endeavor.

"Dark & Gritty" is so 2008. This is 2013, The Avengers have landed... lets try for "Epic" now.

Nothing matters! I gave up on statements like this from actors supporting their movies a long time ago. I want to judge it by myself with my own two eyes (and ears...)!
And yes i agree with @shiverman20, enough with the "darker and grittier" trend! A good, enjoyable and memorable movie is all i want!

Why bother with this movie? You killed off Megatron, Soundwave, Star Scream, and Shockwave. There's no one left.

I liked the movies but dark and gritty is what is needed....Michael Bay needs to take a page of the serious from the fall of cybertron guys...wait.....why won't the person that made those games write the movie?!?!

I just wanna see Optimus Prime going HAM. Literally, 120 minutes of Optimus Prime [frick]ing Decepticons up would completely satisfy me.

I guess that's one way to save money. Paint the Transformers darker and call it a redesign. Still not interested.

@MAGNETOX

Starscreams spark is eternal/immortal, and can possesse others even humans.

I would love to see the dinobots metroplex, tripticon, etc.

at the end of the day though they should reboot and get rid of Bay.Then start with the first movie being all about the war for cybertron NO HUMANS! Then at the end of the movie have the autobots flee cybertron and crash on earth like in gen 1.

When revenge of the fallen was coming out they said it would be darker than the first. Then with dark of the moon bay said it would be the darkest of the franchise...

@LoudLon, The Italian Job was a great movie. (But you really need a good sound system at home to get the full effect.)

I think this Transformers movie might be the end of Mark Wahlberg's career though.

By "darker" do they mean "not a steaming pile of absolute dog shit" like the first three films?!?!
CaptainObvious
CaptainObvious - 3/7/2013, 5:46 PM
Didn't Bay already try the dark and gritty angle with the third movie but failed miserably? Well, if at first you don't succeed, try, try, try, try until you have ruined a popular franchise.

Nothing Bay does will save this franchise. But watch the foolish fans still purchase the tickets when it is released.

If someone calls another upcoming blockbuster film "dark," "gritty," or "grounded" one more time, I'm gonna punch a goddamn baby in the face!!

Comment 1: Undergo slight redesigns? Like there weren't any redesigns in the first three???

Comment 2: The only reason Bay took back Transformers 3 being "his last one" was because deep down he knows it was crap and everyone (mainly fans) knows its crap and was afraid that someone else would more than likely do a better job than him. And his Ego ain't got no time for that!

Comment 3: Was Energon ever even referenced in ANY of the movies? If I remember correctly, wasn't that was either side was fighting for control of for the most part in the original cartoons?
