RICK AND MORTY Season 7 Premiere Cold Open Reveals Justin Roiland's Replacement As Mr. Poopybutthole

As well as voicing Rick and Morty's title characters, Justin Roiland lent his talents to countless supporting players. Now, a new season 7 clip reveals how Mr. Poopybutthole will sound without him...

Rick and Morty season 7 premieres on Adult Swim this, and the network has shared the episode's cold open (via SFFGazette.com). In that, we witness the long-awaited return of Mr. Poopybutthole following a series of memorable cameo roles in post-credits scenes.

Those revealed that there wasn't room for him in the show but he's finally about to be put front and centre. Unsurprisingly, he's not doing well. In recent years, Beth has shot him, he lost both his family and job, and then broke both his legs while attempting to get his life back on track.

Now, though, he's staying in Beth and Jerry's house, and all that negativity seems to be driving the family nuts.

Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland (who was fired for alleged sexual misconduct) previously voiced Mr. Poopybutthole, meaning this clip reveals what he'll sound like moving forward. There is an undeniable difference but this soundalike does a great job and, based on the first reviews for the premiere, the same can be said for the new Rick and Morty as well.

Check out this clip from "How Poopy Got His Poop Back" in the players below.

Adult Swim previously shared episode titles and brief descriptions for season 7, and while they don't reveal much, it sounds like we're in for a fun 10 episodes.

"How Poopy Got His Poop Back" – Broh, Come Out With Us, You're Being So Boring Dude
"The Jerrick Trap" – Gotta be mindful Broh, big brain stuff here.
"Air Force Wong" – Virigina is For Lovers Broh
"That's Amorte" – Broh, That's-A Some Good Spaghetti
"Unmortricken" – Rick And Morty Wilding Out, Broh. They getting up to stuff.
"Rickfending Your Mort" – Gotta keep those receipts, Dawg.
"Wet Kuat Amortican Summer" – High School, Broh. Morty and Summer hang out in this one.
"Rise of the Numbericons: The Movie" – Action! Adventure! It's a whole movie, Broh!
"Mort: Ragnarick" – Heaven is for real, Broh. I saw it, Broh, I swear.
"Fear no Mort" -Only thing to fear is fear itself, Broh.

"Rick and Morty are back and sounding more like themselves than ever!" reads the synopsis for the show's return. "It's season seven, and the possibilities are endless: What's up with Jerry? EVIL Summer?! And will they ever go back to the high school?! Maybe not! But let's find out!"

"There's probably less piss than last season," it continues. "'Rick and Morty,' 100 years! Or at least until season 10!"

Rick and Morty season 7 premieres on Adult Swim on October 15.

If all what Dan Harmon has said is true, then we shouldn't see much changes to the show.

Let it die.

I dunno.... but it doesn't have the same energy.... Just not doing it for me. I Kind of wish that I didn't know about all this, and could watch it unbiased and see if I noticed the difference... but knowing beforehand makes the little minor differences all the more apparent, IMO

@Demigods - I’ll get hate for it, but idc what happened, who said what or w/e, I just want the same voices, with the same quality of jokes etc.

And yes, the quality wavers, but it’s still been an amazing show. We’ll see how it goes from this point on.

Unfortunately lowering expectations

@MuadDib - "I wish that a team of people had to work with a shitty boss in a toxic workplace environment so that I wouldn't have to hear a cartoon character with a slightly different voice" is certainly a take.

They should have just cancelled the show. These new voices are lifeless

Really not into how they tried to get soundalikes for all the characters, this one being the most noticeable of course. I just think it would’ve been funnier to have them inexplicably sound different and not really address it.

@OmegaBlack13 - That would have been perfect - especially if they were able to keep the jokes solid.

That preview just felt sad and flat.

After watching it a couple times, I can say it was a mid episode.

Unfortunately most shows are like that now.

I may smile, even chuckle at times, but the majority of my time is hoping something funnier happens before credits roll.

Verdict: A cool adventure with various scenarios in several locations, but nothing that stands out as a true welcome back. Maybe next week.
