Emmy-Nominated JESSICA JONES Helmer Will Direct The First Two WHEEL OF TIME Episodes For Amazon
The timing couldn't be more perfect for Amazon Studios as they're set to launch a long-awaited adaptation of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time fantasy series just as HBO looks to wrap up Game of Thrones.
The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again.....
That opening holds a special place in the hearts of many longtime fans of Robert Jordan's long-running Wheel of Time fantasy series. After the author's death, completion of the series by Brandon Sanderson, and a tragically inept pilot episode, traction on Amazon's Wheel of Time adaptation has finally begun.
Based on the description of the show, it seems Moraine Aes Sedai will be the lead, rather than Rand, Matt or Perrin. Perhaps that's why Jessica Jones episode director Uta Briesewitz was selected to helm the show's first two episodes. Briesewitz's credits also include Westworld, Stranger Things, Orange is the New Black, Fear the Walking Dead and numerous other genre shows.
Deadline's description of the show is as follows:
"The story follows Moiraine, a member of the shadowy and influential all-female organization called the ‘Aes Sedai’ as she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women. Moiraine believes one of them might be the reincarnation of an incredibly powerful individual, whom prophecies say will either save humanity or destroy it. The series draws on numerous elements of European and Asian culture and philosophy, most notably the cyclical nature of time found in Buddhism and Hinduism."
That's more or less how the first book in the series, The Eye of the World, unfolds so it appears the Amazon adaptation will be staying true to the books, at least at the outset.
Stay tuned to CBM for future updates.
