Following last week's emotional series finale, Jensen Ackles' time as Dean Winchester in Supernatural has reached its end. It's hard to believe, especially when he's been playing the character for the past 15 years, but the actor is now moving on to Amazon's hit comic book series, The Boys.
There, he'll be taking on the role of Soldier Boy, the world's first "superhero." We don't know a huge amount about how the character will be introduced, but it should give Ackles the chance to show what he can do away from The CW. He will be bringing something of Dean's along for the ride, however.
"I somehow managed to end with the same kind of boots for Soldier Boy that I wore as Dean Winchester," Ackles revealed in an interview with EW. "Different color but same boot." That decision was made during a costume fitting for the show. "They had given me a variety [of boots]," Ackles explains, but when he saw the footwear he'd worn as Dean, he knew that it would be right.
A few different characters have held the "Soldier Boy" mantle in The Boys comic book series, so it's unclear how he'll be portrayed in the show. It definitely sounds like Ackles will be playing a key role in season three, though, and his part is expected to be more than just a one-off cameo appearance.
Hopefully, we'll learn more soon!
