THE BOYS Showrunner Eric Kripke Reveals Why Jeffrey Dean Morgan Doesn't Have A Cameo In Season 3

The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke created Supernatural and oversaw that show during its first five seasons. Now, he will reunite with star Jensen Ackles for the upcoming third season of the Prime Video series, with the actor swapping Dean Winchester for Soldier Boy.

His Supernatural co-star Jared Padalecki is busy working on The CW's Walker, but what about Jeffrey Dean Morgan? The Walking Dead star played John Winchester, Sam and Dean's father, in the series and there have been rumblings he could join the cast of The Boys for some time now. Unfortunately, that won't be happening in season 3.

That's a shame, because back in January 2020, there was a Twitter exchange with Kripke promising Morgan a cameo if he had time. Unfortunately, timing appears to have been the main issue.

"Sad for me, happy for him: He's currently the lead, along with Lauren Cohan, on the Walking Dead spin-off," Kripke tells Entertainment Weekly. "So, schedule-wise, I don't know. We might still remain star-crossed, unfortunately, because I did ask. We had a role come up, and my first question was, 'Well, is Jeffrey available?' "

"I enjoy that it's two Supernatural alum in the lead of that show," he added, referring to Isle of the Dead before its planned premiere on AMC next year. "That makes me feel good for our creeping Supernatural world dominance."

Prime Video has also released a fun PSA with Ackles' Soldier Boy which you can check out below. The first three episodes of The Boys arrive this Friday, though we'll be sharing a full season review before then!

I always wanted to see Lauren Cohan's "Bella" crawl out of hell, as so many others did during Supernatural's run, just to drive Sam and Dean crazy one more time.

Is Supernatural actually any good or is it just "CW good"?
