THE BOYS Spinoff Will Draw Inspiration From The Comic's Controversial X-MEN Parody, The G-Men

It was recently announced that a The Boys spinoff series focusing on a college for young supes is in the works at Amazon, and showrunner Eric Kripke has now confirmed that it'll be based on The G-Men...

We recently found out that the popularity of The Boys had led to Amazon fast-tracking a sister-show set at a Vought International-run college for young adult supes, and now thanks to showrunner Eric Kripke, we have a better idea of what to expect.

The untitled, R-rated series is being written by executive producer Craig Rosenberg, and is described as "part college show and part Hunger Games, [it] follows the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities."

This prompted speculation that the show might be based The G-Men from the source comic books, and Kripke has now confirmed that the controversial super-team will at least partially inspire the direction of the new series.

“I would say it’s loosely inspired by an element of the comics, which is the G-Men. Part of the G-Men is there’s sort of an educational, college experience,” Kripke told The Wrap. “And we just used that as a jumping-off point, kind of similar to ‘The Boys,’ where we sort of take an initial notion and then we are going to run with it in our own weird direction.”

In the comics, The G-Men's equivalent of Charles Xavier is a twisted paedophile named John Godolkin who sexually molests the children under his care, so... yeah, let's hope they don't stick too close to the source material this time.

The Season 2 finale of The Boys, "What I know," hits Amazon this Friday.

Why can't they just put them in the actual show?

@soberchimera - After The Boys ends, Amazon knows it's customer base will flock back to Disney+ for The Mandalorian. So they need another solid show to keep people on the platform.

@soberchimera

If they’re not needed in the show why shoehorn them in?

I like the idea of a separate storyline going on then Butcher and co fighting against Vought and the Seven.

If they aren’t needed here then no reason to include them.

“Amazon knows it's customer base will flock back to Disney+ for The Mandalorian.”

That doesn’t really make sense. This spinoff show isn’t debuting when The Mandalorian is. We haven’t even gotten any casting calls for it.

Prime Video is also a supplement of Amazon Prime, not the main course. I really doubt a huge number of current subscribers are going to unsubscribe just because Mandalorian S2 is debuting on D+.

@regularmovieguy - But they're supposed to be exposing ALL corrupted Supes, not just The Seven. And if they keep the focus on Homelander, it's going to get dull which is whey they should take on a different kind of superhero team like the G-Men or Teenage Kix.

I'm not sure this might be as breathtaking as The Boys.

On the other hand if they find awesome actors such as Karl Urban or Anthony Starr, count me in.

I haven’t given the Boys a try yet and I’m still debating whether I want to. I mean it is Superhero related and that is sort of up my ally but from a lot of the stuff I’ve read about and even this spin off. Rape, molestation, pedophillia, sometimes even sex and nudity in general it just sounds a little off putting and I have seen shows like South Park and Family Guy that have done stuff like this but they are full on comedies and I’m kinda ok with that. To be fair another reason is that I’m really only into Marvel and DC stuff. There are some superhero related stuff that aren’t either that I like e.g. TMNT, Power Rangers. I haven’t seen dark stuff adaptations e.g. Logan, Joker, Daredevil but they fell kinda tamed compared to what the Boys sounds like.

Right now I'm imagining Blue Mountain State with superpowers and more blood. And I am 100% on board with that. Get Alan Ritchson on board.
