Syfy's hit series The Expanse, perhaps the best sci-fi series on television right now, returned tonight with the premiere of season 3, "Fight or Flight." The show wasted no time in setting high stakes for the season and picking up where we left off with the show last year. Earth, under control of the UN, declares war against Mars, resulting in a fall scale interplanetary war that threatens to engulf the solar system.

Meanwhile, the Rocinante crew are a team divided and fractured after learning about Naomi's betrayal at the end of last season. After patching up the ship from their fight with the Project Caliban hybrid from season 2, the crew is ready to seek shelter at Tycho station with Fred Johnson. However, Holden has discovered that there is some unusual activity on Jupiter's moon Io and the Rocinante change course for the moon to search for Prax's daughter.

Finally, Bobbie, Avasarala and Cotyar must escape Mao's ship before it is destroyed by missiles fired by Errinwright to eliminate Avasarala from the map. In her absence, UN Undersecretary Errinwright has accused Avasarala (the Deputy Undersecretary) of being behind the protomolecule and all of the chaos currently going on in the solar system, essentially placing all of his dirt on her shoulders.

Check out the promo and synopsis for next week's episode, titled "IFF," below. It appears that another protomolecule hybrid will appear, this time pursuing Bobbie and Avasarala.

"IFF" - The Rocinante answers an unexpected distress signal; Bobbie and Avasarala find themselves being hunted by a mysterious captor; UN Secretary-General Sorrento-Gillis brings in a colleague from his past to lend an ear during this crucial time of war. The episode was written by Hallie Lambert and directed by Brett Eisner.

Starring: Steven Strait as James Holden, Dominique Tipper as Naomi Nagata, Cas Anvar as Alex Kamal, Wes Chatham as Amos Burton, Frankie Adamas as Bobbie Draper, Shohreh Aghdashloo as Chrisjen Avasarala, and Terry Chen as Praxideke Meng.

The Expanse returns with an all new episode on Syfy next Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 9 pm EST.

@VisionWitch - yeah I totally agree about season 1. The first half was pretty boring, especially the Eros stuff (though that Martian battleship episode, number 3 I believe, was awesome). You could tell they were trying to figure out their footing and what did or did not work and thankfully they found that towards the end of the season. And season 2 was so good!
