THE WALKING DEAD #192 Features A Shocking Twist Which Is Bound To Divide Fans - SPOILERS

Like the TV series, The Walking Dead comic book isn't quite as good as it once was, and the series' latest death is bound to lead to a lot of readers calling it quits! At the end of issue #191, Rick Grimes was shot by Sebastian Milton, the son of Governor Pamela Milton. He was looking for revenge on behalf of his mothe, but no one could quite believe that this was the end for Rick.

Well, in today's issue #192, Sebastian proceeds to shoot Rick a further three times and kills him.

His zombified form then rises, only to be put down by Carl with a single shot to the head. Just like that, the beloved character's story is over and unlike his small screen counterpart, he went out with something of a whimper rather than the bang fans will have been hoping for.

In the comic's "Letter Hacks" section, creator and writer Robert Kirkman claims this has always been in the works, and say that he always wanted Sebastian to be the one to pull the trigger. "For almost a decade now I knew Rick would choose to preserve the Commonwealth no matter the cost... and it would cost him his life," he said.

"I've said in interviews for many, many years, that everyone dies in this story, and that even Rick Grimes won't survive until the end," he continued. "While this was always Rick's story thus far, as written about in the first issue, that doesn't mean he needs to be alive to be a presence in the series. This is the story of a world, not a man."

How do you guys feel about Rick's story coming to an end in The Walking Dead #192?

I wonder how many issues this will run.

Surely they've gotta think about ending it after #200.

Thank God Saga will end at #108. Comics who run for too long are bound to disappoint.

@scapegoatjones - It's on a year long break, at least, so it won't be back until next month at the earliest. I hope it comes back sooner than later, but I'm willing to wait if the quality stays consistent.

This would have been a huge deal 7 years ago. But AMC’s repeated bungling of this property has ruined Walking Dead for me.

I never expected Rick to make it to the end. Kirkman himself has pretty much said this for quite a long time, and with him willing to kill anyone, it seemed obvious Rick would buy the farm before the end.

Having said that, I never considered this to be a story about Rick. I always though of this series as more of a "coming of age" story about Carl. He's the only character that was a small child when the zombies started. He wouldn't remember a whole lot more of the world before the zombies. So he's the only one to only know this world and nothing else. We've seen him raised by Rick and he's seen pretty much everything shitty that the world can throw at them. Because of this, I always expected Carl to be the last one standing and become the leader of the group in the last issue.

@CorndogBurglar - I agree. It's always been about Carl's future al la John Connor. It was already sliding on TV, but the worst decision was killing Carl only to have him replaced with Judith. Sadly, Terminator seems to be doing the same thing. I guess the future truly is female.

RIP Rick. :(

I heard the newest Season was much better, have to catch up and this whimper of an ending to the character makes me look forrward to those movies with Andrew Lincoln a lot more.

I'm still waiting for the time-travel shenanigans in which we learn that Carl was actually The Governor all along.

Ok. I was already bored when they reached Alexandria and quit back then. Don't know why I'm still following the show.

Read the issue ... what was the twist? Sebastian shot him center mass in the last issue as the "cliffhannger."

I guess there can be no true epic ending for Rick....

Meh. Always wanted the last panel of the series to be Rick’s corpse rising as a zombie.

Rick was shot last issue, right in the chest. Him dying wasn't a twist at all.

If there had to be a "twist", it would have been Carl accepting (very calmly) Sebastian's lifelong incarceration as punishment, and his condolences to Governor Milton's hardship dealing with her son's stupid decision. I wasn't expecting that, but it definitely lines up with Carl's character, especially after reading his conversation with Sebastian in the jail.

Now Carl is gonna be on suicide watch. I don't think he's going to handle this as well as he initially did. It's been a while since someone has decided for themselves to die while everyone around them is trying so desperately to survive.

And in case you were curious who would be the new focus of the series with Rick gone, Kirkman makes it very clear in the letters section that it won't be Carl, "you [frick]ing [frick]ity [frick]ers".

Bring me NEGAAAAN!!

Not shocked and i dont care. Book has been stale for a long time. People like to praise the book over the show but its equally bad.Killing people purely for shock value is a played out. Ita whatever now because ive detatched myself from the characters.
