THE WIRE'S Seth Gilliam Joins Season 5 Of THE WALKING DEAD

Gilliam is now the third actor from The Wire (along with Chad Coleman as Tyreese and Larry Gilliard Jr. as Bob) to sign on to the show, and he'll be playing an undisclosed character..but one THR believe will turn out to be Preacher Gabriel Stokes. More past the jump.

According to THR, Seth Gilliam has joined season 5 of The Walking Dead as a series regular. His character is listed as "Michael", and he's described as "friendly with a puckish demeanor who also has a haunted side", but this is apparently a dummy name and the site believe the info is not accurate either -- they think he'll actually play a preacher from the comics named Gabriel Stokes, who joins Rick and co. in issue #61. Gilliam played Ellis Carver on all five seasons of The Wire and now becomes the third alum from that acclaimed HBO drama to join The Walking Dead along with Chad Coleman (Tyreese) and Larry Gilliard Jr. (Bob). He can currently be seen on MTV's Teen Wolf. The Walking Dead returns for its fifth season in October.

Shit is getting more and more difficult for me - I was already confusing my friends when we watched TWD and I made remarks about "Cutty" and "D'Angelo" and they had no clue about whom I was talking. Although by the end of S4 I kind of managed to switch to "Tyreese" and "Bob". ;)

ReeferInferno - Idris elba is wayy out of the walking dead's league. He's too good of an actor to be on that show, and he cost to much.

@LEEE
The Wire is the best show ever made. It can be off-putting at first, because the dialogue is so realistic it doesn't seem inviting and might not immediately grab attention, but don't give up on it. Eventually you'll come to appreciate it, and over time you will be blown away.

@nibs n patrat...i thought i was the only hardcore wire fan on here. It def is the greatest show ive seen on tv. I always made jokes that avon is running the zombie prison in baltimore and of course all of them survived cuz the streets of west baltimore is more jacked up than zombie world!! Glad to see that now we have three great actors from that show on this show now. I have no doubt hell be good on this. And who ever asked about the guy that always said ssssshhhheeeeetttttt, that is clay davis!! Haha. Its all in the game

I got the first season of The Wire as a present once, and I was thrilled, because I heard such good things about it. For over three years I regularly tried to get past the first half of the first episode, and I couldn't. It just didn't click.

Then one day I put the disc in, started the first episode, watched it whole, decided I could watch the next one as well, and three weeks later I'd finished all 5 seasons. Amazing show, one of my favourites! :D

good to hear there are hardcore wire-ists on this site! I'm getting close to being ready for a re-watch.

Speaking of re-watches @leroyjenk starship troopers is awesome. one of the best sci-fi movies. might need to give that a go soon too! it's up there with star wars and the first matrix.

@nibs and freebird

I think I'm due to a complete Wire re-watch later this year or next year.

I'm still unsure if I should give it to my parents. My dad didn't use to watch shows at all, and my mom is big fan of Navy CIS and Castle and such, but since my dad is retired they start to discover new stuff. Over the last months they watched both House of Cards and Breaking Bad and liked both a lot.

Think they're ready for McNulty and the gang?

Such good actors wasted on such poor writing.

Anyone who hasn't watched the Wire don't know what they're missing. The writing for that show was so compelling and genuine in its presentation that no matter what season you watched that focused on a different aspect of the city, it always felt utterly legitimate. No TV show comes close. Its weird to see where all the actors have surfaced years later, everytime I see any of the cast in any show like Littlefinger on Game of Thrones, I still think "The Wire".

I do kyos!! Put ur parents on that shit!! Lol. Its one of those things in life where when people dont agree its the best show they have seen then it isnt worth an agruement, the way i see it, they arent on the level i am, lol. And im declaring june as the wire re watch month!!! And p.s., word on the street is they didnt kill wallace, he was adopted my a white family in new york n now he flys around on fire.

@kyos
I agree with these guys, give it to them!
But warn your mom that she will never look at bullshit police procedurals like NCIS the same way again! CJ is right, no show comes anywhere close. It actually makes breaking bad look sloppy. If the wire is a 10/10, GoT is prob an 8 or 9, breaking bad an 8, walking dead a 6. Agents of SHIELD 2/10. lol.

@freebird
I completely agree. If someone told me the wire was stupid, that's cool, I understand not liking it, but I never want to talk to that person about tv and movies again lol.

always wondered if theyd put the Preacher in the show, it is about time in the timeline, so im not shocked. maybe theyll escape terminus in 2 or 3 episodes and spend the rest of the first half being hunted by some of the hunters and base those episodes more on the comic story, then getting to DC and Alexandria by the end of season 5, maybe set up negan, but i dont expect him tll season 6. who knows though

He must be an established character, surely? The number of characters in the comic series skyrockets after the fall of the prison.

I was warned that once I finished The Wire, I would go into an intense withdrawal. All this talk however is forcing my hand.
