Sarah Michelle Gellar Is Open To Return As BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER

With a Kickstarter campaign breathing life into a Veronica Mars movie, is there hope for a Buffy revival too? The star of Joss Whedon's sporadically brilliant tv show, Sarah Michelle Gellar, is definitely up for it..under the right circumstances.

Is there any hope for big-screen Buffy? Joss Whedon's ground breaking tv series was one of those love it or hate it kind of shows..but its legions of fans REALLY loved it. The series actually started out as a movie, but was generally seen as a bit of turkey (it's actually not that bad really) so Whedon and co. really took a chance on the spin-off tv series -- would going back to film be a wise move? Buffy Summers herself Sarah Michelle Gellar reckons that with the "right story", it just might be.

“Joss [Whedon] and I always talk about [a movie]. But the thing with Buffy is that Buffy was a movie, and it ultimately didn’t work as a film. And I mean, we had such miles to overcome when we were trying to do a TV show based on a movie. And one of the reasons is that the story works better over time. If there was ever the right story, we would do it. At this point, the stake would be my walker and I would be hobbling in."

There has been talk of rebooting Buffy without Gellar (only 36 by the way) or Whedon's involvement, but thankfully those plans seem to have been scrapped for the time being. Would you guys like to see Buffy back with a stake in her hand? Or has the time passed for a big screen outing? Sound off below.

This was a Warner Bros cash cow... they surely wouldn't need Kickstarter to finance this.

I'd see it as I love Buffy but I feel like it'd be a type of: older action heroes can still be cool cliche that has been sweeping Hollywood. (RED, Good Day to Die Hard, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.)

Same here. It would be nice if it was a Buffy/Angel movie with a 130 million dollar budge. They could get some A list talent to be the main villain and/or villains. That would insure that the GA would come along for the ride. :D

I have to say I didn't get on the Buffy bandwagon until recently... I just watched them all on Netflix, and loved them. Once I was done I had to watch all of the Angels too. Great show.... Very anime influenced... In a good way

The only reason she wants to come back is because her film career flopped. I'd watch a Willow Movie :P

Great show. Like a lot of you I was on the Whedon fan train before The Avengers so this would please me. I'd like to see Angel: After the Fall in live action someday too.

If Whedon could find the right story and the time and get everyone on board, I"d be there in a heartbeat.

And Ror, it's rather unfair to call this show a spin-off from that trainwreck of a movie. It was absolutely a "from the ground up" reboot of the concept. They even did a redo of some of the circumstances from the original script during the Season 2 two part finale (along with a loose readaptation of the whole thing in the early Dark Horse Buffy comics).

If Fox (whom Whedon had to partner up with ) had any brains, they'd call the Kuzuis, have them open channels back up with Whedon now and play this out until he becomes available. They own Buffy but he owns everything else from the series.

It may take a few years to put the pieces together, but it's better to start mending fences and spitballing the hypotheticals now.

It might be a little late for a Buffy movie but I'd still see it if they made one. I don't think they'd be able to get James Marsters or David Boreanaz back, though, if they wanted Angel or Spike in it they'd have to recast, and that I'm against. Weren't they supposed to make a Giles TV movie that was gonna come out on BBC like five years ago?

I thought the article read "Sarah Michelle Gellar is SET to return as Buffy The Vampire Slayer" and I almost nutted on myself lol. I definitely would love to see a Buffy movie again. The '92 Buffy film was really only similar to the series in name and concept; it wasn't the film Joss Whedon really wanted to make. A Buffy film featuring the original cast, with Whedon at the helm would be infinitely better with the right story. Buffy does work because it has time to develop characters and go into detail, but seeing as the cast has been long established, that won't be a huge problem. The main question would be, where in the Buffy timeline does the film take place? They've been continuing Buffy's story in comic format since 2007, so it would clash with the comics to set it immediately after the show, and the actors aren't ancient but they are 10 years older, so they characters will have to have aged as well. David Boreanz doesn't look much older now than he did when Angel ended, and James Marsters hasn't either, with some hollywood magic, Angel & Spike can still look like the immortal un-aging Vampires they are. I hope Buffy really will get the Veronica Mars treatment, cause I'm all for a film. But I pray to god that no hack tries to reboot Buffy and shit on everything that made the series great. Sarah Michelle Gellar IS Buffy as far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't want her, or any other cast members replaced in those roles. Only way I'd even give a reboot a chance, is if Whedon was at the helm.

I COULD PROLLY THINK OF A COOL WAY TO REBOOT IT. CAUSE TO TELL YOU THE HONEST TRUTH, IT WHEDON DOESN'T DO IT, IF THE STORY JUST CONTINUES , IT MIGHT GET STALE, GELLAR IS A BIT OLDER..THE AUDIENCE WANTS NEW FACES OR THAT THING, THAT SPARK THAT GETS THEM PUMPED..SOMETIMES REBOOT IS THE WAY TO GO. IT'S LIKE TRYING TO OUTDO A GOOD THING IF YOUR NOT MAKING IT FRESH OR DIFFERENT FOR A NEW AUDIENCE...TOO MUCH CRITICISM FROM DIEHARD FANS, THEY'LL TEAR DOWN STUFF IF YOU DONT DO IT RIGHT, THATS WHY IF IT WAS A REBOOT WITH A SIMILAR FEEL..IT'D PROLLY TAKE OFF
