ARROW: Alexander Calvert Joins Season 4 As 'Anarky'

On the heels of the news that Mr. Terrific will be making his live-action debut in Arrow, we now have word that Batman villain Anarky will also be finding his way to Star City next season. The character will be played by Bates Motel actor Alexander Calvert...

It looks like Ollie Queen and his pals are going to be encountering quite a few new faces for season 4 of Arrow... and not all of them friendly. We heard earlier on that they'll be getting some backup in the form of Echo Kellum as Mr. Terrific, but now CBR reports that there'll also be a new bad guy to balance things out.

Alexander Calvert (Bates Motel, The Dead Zone) has joined the cast as Lonnie Machin, aka Anarky, who will make his debut in the second episode. This take on the character is described as "a deranged freelancing criminal who is willing to do whatever it takes to impress a potential employer."

In the comics Anarky is a tech genius whose fighting skills are said to rival that of Batman's, but it remains to be seen if this TV take on the character will exhibit those traits.

Hmmm... I'm intrigued, but that character description doesn't sound anything at all like Anarky. The last thing Anarky would be worrying about is "impressing a potential employer". Hopefully this turns out better than it sounds. At least it can't be worse than his "Beware the Batman" incarnation.

It could be that that potential employer is Green Arrow. Anarky is a bit of a wanna-be.

Pretty much looks like Anarky from Arkham Origins. Plus, Anarky fits the arrowverse. I hope he is on for a couple of episodes like the new Count Vertigo.

I very much enjoy this show for the most part but this show still makes me mad with all the overcasting/no real batman lore. Love the idea but still so many miscannon lore/WB has no immediate plans. Will watch though

As someone who has wanted Anarky in the show since the beginning, I don't like the description that is given by the network.

"a deranged freelancing criminal who is willing to do whatever it takes to impress a potential employer."

That doesn't sound like Anarky at all.

I literally cannot wait until Riddler and Joker get on the show and Queen Manner has a ARROW cave, with an Arrow-mobile, and gets a third side kick named Timara Drake

@TheSoulEater Green Arrow has traditionally had an Arrow Cave and Arrow Car etc. so introducing them would not be the Batman rip off you're implying.

There is a brilliant scene in Injustice year one with Oli and Harley (Oh look a comic where Oli and Batman villains are together) discuss that Arrows don't have caves and it should be called the Quiver. It's hilarious, look it up.

The Dc universe has been connected for longer than I have been alive allowing for the crossover of heroes and villains.

Green Arrow has two or three iconic villains and his New52 Rogue Gallery has been expanding in a really positive way but not enough to fill a show so borrowing villains is the best way to keep the show fresh and moving forward.

Using all these Batman villains pisses me off. A lot of these villains are not made for blockbuster films, but it only makes Batman fans even more pissed that we cannot get Batman tv series.

The description of Anarchy is also a little worry some. Anarchy being considered about impressing an employee, let alone anybody, is a little wrong in my opinion.

So annoyed right now. Gothan continues to do what they want yet still no Dark Knight, and Arrow continues to take Batman villains yet no damn Batman, not even a damn reference.

@PunchFromSpace so a real comic fan should be happy we are getting characters brought to life, it doesn't matter if it's good or bad just be happy they are coming to life.

So I take it you are a huge Batman and Robin fan. We should simply be happy we got Mr Freeze brought to life?

Have you seen New52 Anarky? He's much closer to this than the classic version. Back in the day, the reader could really get behind Anarky's brand of justice, but DC turned him into a bland domestic terrorist identity that any crazy asshat can wear. It's like Anonymous with their Guy Fawkes masks.

As for GA stealing Batman villains, Anarky is also a Birds of Prey villain, so with Canary, Huntress, Sin and Felicity as Oracle, it all sort of fits.

I wonder if even half of you are even aware of Green Arrow's very small rogues gallery. Why not bring in other villains as long as they fit for what the writers are wanting?

@TheSoulEater

An Arrowmobile? So you're wanting the older Green Arrow then? Arrowcar, Arrowplane.....how about Bull's Eye too?
