ARROW: John Barrowman Reveals Spoiler About Damien Darhk

Arrow is centering season 4 around Neal McDonough's Damien Darhk, a little known DC Comics villain with ties to Ra's al Ghul and Vandal Savage. Where the show takes their version of Darhk will be quite different from the character's comic book adventures according to John Barrowman.

In the comics, Damien Darhk is a baby-faced, genius-level operative of H.I.V.E. who tangled with the Teen Titans.  On Arrow, Darhk is a practitioner of the mystic arts , rather than genius technician.  He's also a former member of the League of Assassins and a contemporary of Ra's al Ghul (Matt Nable).  According to Malcolm Merlyn actor John Barrowman, Damien Darhk's exposure to the Lazarus Pit has different repercussions than what Thea (Willa Holland) or Sara (Caity Lotz) have to deal with.  Said Barrowman, "[Malcolm's] not afraid of [the newly resurrected Sara Lance] because, in his mind, he killed her once, he can kill her again.  But he doesn’t know what she’s come out of the pit with. Everybody comes out of the pit different. People come out with a bit of every soul that has been put in the pit before. Some parts of those souls take over. Thea’s got a bloodlust. Damien Darhk’s got something else. What will Sara come out with?”

So if you were expecting everyone who emerges from the Lazarus Pit to have bloodlust like Thea, you assumed wrong.  Furthermore, the explanation about how the Pit works raises some interesting questions.  Were there ever any pure-hearted individuals to bathe in the Pit's restorative waters and if so, is it possible to emerge with better qualities?  Or, were there only vile and corrupt men that have used the Pit and thus everyone who steps into its waters is forever tainted?

I used to watch it with my parents as a kid. I remember the edge of your seat saga of "Will Dylan choose Brenda or Kelly???"

I remember my parents making jokes about Andrea's age, then years later, Family Guy made one too.

I even remember a scene where Steve was surrounded by gay men, and one of them was like "this is about sex" and Steve said "Nah man! IT'S ABOUT LOVE!!!"

That means Darhk's power comes from some other spirit. So we need to pay close attention to how Sara's situation is resolved. Because that may be how Darhk is stripped of his power before he gets the annual season badguy beating.

I like Arrow's direction so far this season which I suspect may be due to new exec producer Wendy Mericle. But after so many jump the shark moments last season, I keep expecting the bottom to fall out any time.

One thing I read online earlier was that Tommy Merlyn was put in the Lazarus Pit before Sara and that is why he didn't want her to be put in it too. I personally don't believe that rumor, but it would be interesting if that really did happen.
