It was reported by Deadline that Beth Schwartz, who is all too familiar with Arrow, will step up as the new Showrunner of the CW seriesand current showrunner Marc Guggenheim, along with Co-showrunner Wendy Mericle, have stepped down.

Schwartz is known for her involvement in Legends of Tomorrow and was a writer's assistant back on the first season of Arrow. Marc Guggenheim will be transitioning into an executive consultant role for season 7. Guggenheim will also be retracting himself from the other series he's been co-showrunning. Current co-showrunner of Legends of Tomorrow, Phil Klemmer, will step up as show-runner for season 4.

Beth is a true leader and a captivating storyteller, and we all can't wait for the audience to see what she and her team dream up as they take Arrow into its next big chapter.

Arrow fans have often complained that they aren't happy with the way Guggenheim has been handling the show, so what do you think? Do you reckon that Beth Schwartz can give Arrow the much-needed change that fans have been requesting?

I feel like all shows should switch up showrunners after a couple years just to keep from getting stale. This one has been long overdue though! Hope all CW shows get a shot in the arm for next year!

@xfan320 - Yeah I definitely agree, I think the current show runners just aren't giving the shows new and fresh ideas. However, when they do try and come up with new ideas they always seem mediocre.

Don't care who's running the show. Just make it good.

Good. Season 5 was great but this season has shown that Guggenheim really was having difficulty creating stories without completely dismantling his characters. This whole season has been running on empty and using characters acting out of character to move the story.

Time to bring in some new blood and hopefully bring this thing back up to par.

Saying fans have been unhappy with Guggenheim because of the way he has handled the show indicates that we are really choosing to focus on only season 6 and nothing else that has ever happened in this show's history. The man has been there from the start. And he helped give us seasons 2 and 5, the best season's so far from the show. Let's not be quick to say the guy has done a poor job handling Arrow.

@HeavyMetal4Life - He was working with Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg for seasons 1 & 2. He became the sole show runner for season 3 and a 1/4 track record isn't really anything to write home about, regardless of how much I enjoyed season 5.

And she also wrote the Thanatos Guild, which was a very good episode.

So... people who want Arrow to fail will always see the negatives. This isn't Flash, this isn't Supergirl. Let's not confuse the shows here. If Schwartz can do a great job as showrunner, then I'm all for it.

I’m indifferent. Arrow was great last season but still never captured me like the first two did, and this showrunner has such an iffy track record as it is I’m not sure it’ll be a positive change, but I won’t bash on something new being tried, as season 6 has been kind of stale. Not entirely bad, just a lot of rehashing.

I don't think a female showrunner is the right choice for Arrow anymore than a male should be running Supergirl.

@ManDeth - Having a male or female show runner has nothing to do with this. Anyone could be good as long as they can come up with good stories.

@aliharris - Each Jessica Jones season 2 episode was directed by a different female director, and they were all very disappointing to stay polite, except for the flashback one. And on the other hand, you have men directing some female actors masterfully, from Homeland to Orphan Black.

That being said, I would kill to see Sofia Coppola or Kathryn Bigelow direct a Batwoman Elegy or the Justice League Dark movie, with Z as the team leader and not Constantine. I think in some instances, female directors directing a female-centric movie will give more nuances, and avoid tropes and stereotypes.

I don't want Zatanna to be just Constantine's love interest, for example. She's a super hot showgirl, and yet she's very classy and funny, and the line between sexy and vulgar is a fine one, and I believe a female director would walk it better.

@ManDeth - that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

@aliharris - Wrong. Arrow is not The Flash.
ManDeth
ManDeth - 4/18/2018, 6:56 AM
@Ha1frican - Arrow is like Mortal Kombat. There is a reason males write & buy such material & women don't. That sort of thing does not appeal to women. Women call such things "Toxic Masculinity" because they cannot understand or relate to it.

Ha1frican
Ha1frican - 4/18/2018, 7:14 AM
@ManDeth - considering the only person I know that still watches Arrow is female and she’s obsessed with it I’m calling complete bullshit on that. The idea that someone’s gender automatically has them think or behave in such a way that makes relating to the opposite sex unrelatable is the most unintentionally close minded and regressive notion in the past decade. Anyone who knows how to tell a story can do so if they have an idea of how to do so in a meaningful way. Patty Jenkins could make a Green Arrow story, just like The Russo’s could make a compelling Black Widow of Captain Marvel story. Your genitals aren’t a part of the equation the only reason they are is people have tried to make round about arguments to encourage more women and minorities to tell these stories which is great in concept but ridiculous bc it limits what people are perceived to be able to do creatively

@Asturgis - Kathryn Bigelow is perfect for a Batwoman / Batgirl film. I'd honestly take her over Matt Reeves for a Batman film. She's good at directing action and looking at Zero Dark Thirty, I reckon her Batman would be more focused on the detective aspect of his character.
ManDeth
ManDeth - 4/18/2018, 9:27 AM
@Ha1frican - As I said, if Arrow becomes a cushy show about Olicity, it is a woman's show. But if it goes back to it's roots, a woman is no more right to produce that than a guy is right to do a movie about being a woman.

Patty Jenkins? Because she directed the overrated Wonder Woman?

"Your genitals aren’t a part of the equation" Your most ludicrous statement yet. Men and women are not the same psychologically. A show like Arrow seasons 1-3 is tailor made for guys. Only other guys can produce that kind of show. Just like only a female could really do a series that caters SUCCESSFULLY to other females.

In recent years Guggenheim and Mericle have tried to broaden Arrow's ratings by making it more of a woman's show. The result has been a ratings crash. Most women do not care about watching DC superheroes. Most guys do not want to watch the Olicity BS. So the experiment failed.

I have no doubt, Schwartz will guide Arrow even more into the Olicity soap opera and drive more male fans away, while bringing in no more female fans.

In other words, she will continue the trend of trying to turn a guy's show into a women & men show because she does not want to cater to men, nor could she produce such a series if she tried. Women and men have very different tastes that lead to different choices when creating entertainment. Can you even admit that from self-righteous mountain?

You can sit around trying to be big PC-hero all you want. A year from now I will have been proven right, you wrong.

End of story!

@ManDeth - I get what you meant, and I agree, having a woman who is too much a fan of olicity is going to destroy this good show in season 7 , hopefully current show runners made some things happen in the finale that will save season 7 from letting that happen.

yeah so long you prick! hope the new one knows her shit , also usualy season 6 on the cw means a lot of regulars leave cause of contract stuff so maybe diggle will leave the show or felishity but i don't think so :(

Is it not too late to at least try and make it anything like the current Rebirth run of Green Arrow comics?
aliharris
aliharris - 4/18/2018, 2:16 AM
@Prork - Look, it is too late in my honest opinion. I always believed they should've incorporated the new 52 storyline by Jeff Lemire "The Outsiders War" in season 3. I think that would've been a good to start in making Arrow more comic accurate.

Hoping for the best and hopefully this will lead to old cast members like Jessica De Gouw returning. There has to be a reason why the Bertinelli name was brought up in season six.

@BlackIceJoe - I mean the Bertinelli name has been brought up back in season 4 and 5. I'm hoping for Jessica to return as well but just don't get your hopes up too much.
