ARROW Season 4 Finds Oliver At Peace With His Father's Legacy

The driving force behind Oliver Queen's (Stephen Amell) initial mission in season 1 of Arrow was his father's (Jamey Sheridan) legacy and his involvement with Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) and The Undertaking. What drives him in season 4?

Arrow's showrunners want fans to know that season 4 will have a much lighter tone. Explaining the transition, Arrow executive showrunner Marc Guggenheim stted, “We played him as a guy who was returning home from war with PTSD for the first three years.  Now he’s put those demons to rest, or so he thinks, and there’s a lightness to him as a result of all the things he learned last year." Another Arrow showrunner, Wendy Mericle adds, "It’s less about erasing his father’s legacy and more about establishing his."

The show has definitely seen its fair share of death, murders and tragic storylines.  While Guggenheim points to Deathstroke's (Manu Bennett) arrival in Starling City in season 2 as a turning point for the show, death and sacrifice have always been a major motivation for Oliver.  From his father, Robert Queen, to his mentor and first trainer, Yao Fei,  and even Tommy Merlyn,  Arrow has always dealt with costly repercussions for the choices people make.  Where the show deviated in season 3, is that the death of supporting characters around Oliver didn't spur him onwards to heroic actions.  The death of Sara Lance caused Oliver to do some very questionable things where the League of Assassins was concerned.   Hopefully, if anyone in season 4 does have to make the "ultimate sacrifice" it prompts Oliver to become a better defender of Star City and one that doesn't need to use deceitful and unethical methods to get the mission accomplished.

Arrow season 4 premieres on October 8th on The CW.

Let's hope that Felicity gets a bullet in the head next so he can have a new legacy. I do enjoy Arrow though, it's so shit that it's wonderful, it's so incompetent and badly written that you can't hate it, especially season 3.

2 Things

A. Damien Darhk catching the Arrow with telekinesis or whatever was great.

B. Diggle's helmet looks a lot better in practice. Also does it not have a back?

I hope this leads into him becoming the left wing Green Arrow. Seeing him dealing with politics and being Green Arrow would bring a whole new side to the show.

That front page headline on the computer screen isn't as cool as the one from the Flash.

It is crazy I am getting this sense of deja vu while watching Atom fight those fighter jets. I can't shake the feeling I have seen this scene somewhere before. Oh hey look at this scene darn it looks awfully familiar to Atom fighting some fighter jets.

@Jollem ya great fights I especially love the guys running at katana waiving his bow around instead of you know shooting arrows at her. I also love the way the bad guy takes forever to swing his sword down while katana does a dumb spin on the ground and stabs him. Such amazing fights in those scenes.

Pretty sure @Jollem is just trolling. I find it hard to believe someone has watched Arrow and Daredevil and came to the conclusion that Arrow is BETTER. i understand liking ARROW more... But i doubt he's being serious

I don't know this is the same guy that has defended TASM 2 and said it was a good movie. It brings all his opinions into question.

The fight scenes last season were meh, but can't deny that at one point Arrow was beast with its fight scenes.

I love that new promo spot! This season looks like it's going to be a lot more fun than the last... season 3's biggest weakness was its relentless mopey-ness. You can be dark and gritty and still have fun with it, and it looks like this season has learned that lesson well.

At least, I hope it has.
