Nearly ever since viewers were first introduced to David Ramsey’s character, there has been a large number of fans who maintain that John Diggle is in fact the Arrowverse’s version of John Stewart, a.k.a. Green Lantern. But aside from a few knowing winks and references, including a line from the
Elseworlds crossover where the Flash of Earth 90 admitted he wasn’t used to seeing Diggle without his “ring,” this theory has remained just that.
Nevertheless, that may soon change by the time the eighth and final season of
Arrow comes to an end, as David Ramsey recently spoke with
Collider to discuss the final episodes of the CW drama and seemingly confirmed this Green Lantern theory will be acknowledged.
“I think we have to find out what’s going on with Green Lantern,” Ramsey said before admitting that the seeds have been there for years.
“We’ve been teasing that since Season 2 or 3. It’s been a crazy amount of time, so we have to put a button on that, and from what I’m hearing, we will.”
Although many fans will likely just be grateful to see this element of the show come to fruition, some will undoubtedly wonder why it’s taken this long. In fact, David Ramsey also admitted that if it wasn’t for producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Beth Schwartz he also would have been concerned about the future of the character.
“There’s been a tremendous amount of logistics and moving parts that have come together, to make this one show happen. How Greg has duplicated that, over and over and over and over, and 18 times over again, has just been incredible. But he and Marc and Beth have been very forthright about what they want to do with that whole possible mythos, with Green Lantern. So, if it had not been for them, yes, I’d probably be pulling my hair out, what little I have, and saying, ‘What’s going on, guys?’ but they’ve been very honest about it.”
While it sounds as if they were ultimately able to work things out for Green Lantern, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about the difficulties of introducing new characters to the Arrowverse, as policies at DC famously forced
Arrow to kill off their iteration of the Suicide Squad around the time production on the 2016 film began.
