Despite occasionally appearing as a hallucination or an alternate-universe doppelganger, Tommy Merlyn (Colin Donnell) and Adrian Chase (Josh Segarra) have remained well and truly dead. However, during a recent chat with Entertainment Weekly, Arrow showrunner Beth Schwartz confirmed that the two stars will return for one last go in the upcoming final season.

Schwartz didn’t reveal any specific details on their return, but she did make it clear that Adrian Chase, a.k.a. Prometheus, “comes back in a different way than expected.” Likewise, the showrunner said Oliver Queen’s best friend won’t be “coming back as the Tommy we know.”

While we don’t currently know how the series will bring the two characters back, this fall will see the Arrowverse experience its own Crisis on Infinite Earth, so it’s entirely possible that they hail from one of the many alternate Earths.

Arrow Season 8 is currently scheduled to premiere October 15, 2019.

Tommy Merlyn is going to be the new Prometheus.

Something similar to comics.

@Repian - he was already prometheus in the earth x crossover. I doubt they'll do that twice.

Lol it was pretty lame how they had to come up with some throwaway line as to why Oliver hallucinated Tommy had a beard because Colin Donnell didn't want to shave.

“comes back in a different way than expected.” [...] won’t be “coming back as the Tommy we know.”

DCeased confirmed.

@Reeds2Much - way too soon for that, but I’f they did it would probably be a crossover and if they did a crossover they would probably do blackest night instead

This last season is definitely looking to go out with a whimper.

Look back at the life of the show, hands down the best villain has been Slade followed by the Demons Head.

I guess if the show were to have continued past this upcoming season things could only get worst as far as the writing. It’s a good thing it’s going away after all.

I had been following some news over the last couple of weeks regarding Colin Donnell's exit from Chicago Med so it was a 50/50 that he could be back in some more substantial way for Arroq. Josh Segarra's however is the surprise here.

Chase being a hero and now Tommy a villain could be unless the showrunner is just playing coy by saying he is going to return as the Tommy we knew.

Hopefully they stick through until Crisis arrives.

Just wish they can also bring back John Barrowman as Merlyn. 🤞

@NinnesMBC - My bad! Forgot that she said that Tommy is NOT returning as the guy we have always known. Made a mistake.

That means the chances of him and Chase switching roles is more possible than ever.

Soooo the characters are still dead, and are just pulling an Earth-2 Laurel Lance?

Okay... That's not a really a big deal, don't know why they have to give fans of the characters false hope like they did with Laurel Lance with they teased her "revival" when they first brought Black Siren from the Flash to Arrow.

However, if they are some how gonna revive them (for real) then screw this show, and I am more than officially glad that there are only ten episodes left of this shit show. They should have brought back Laurel Lance from the dead instead.

Bring back Huntress and Katana.

@BlackIceJoe - Sure why not. Specially Katana who they wasted in Suicide Squad and haven't allowed us to see her again when she would be a nice fit here or in Legends. The more Katana, the better.

Awesome news! Can't wait to have Prometheus return, he is not only the greatest Arrow villain, but also the greatest villain in the history of the Arrowverse.

Looking forward to seeing who else they bring back too.
