Damian Wayne as Arrow's Season 4 Villain?... Don't Think So...

A little bit of research...and thinking...leaves you with a very different result then the TVLine Article writer claimed. Not sure if I should post this as news...

As I sat back to begin my work tonight (3/3/15) I was baffled by the article I saw when I refreshed my Facebook feed, "Damian Wayne is Arrow's Season 4 Villain" an article posted on Comic Book Movie. I immediately dropped my pencil and clicked the link...only to read an article that implied next to nothing about Damian Wayne besides the writers own inclination. From there...I jumped to the original interview, which is quoted below:

Question: Anything cool coming up on Arrow? —Julie

Ausiello: The show’s Season 3 finale will introduce a major, formidable, fierce new foe for Oliver, and his reign of terror will continue well into Season 4. The mysterious character is being referred to internally as “Damian Dark,” which got Matt Mitovich and I (but mostly MM) pulling up and skimming the Wiki page of one Damian Wayne. Get it? Damian Wayne. Son of the Dark Knight. They’d probably have to tweak the Bruce Wayne connection, but it’s a plausible theory, no?

The writer of the initial TVLine article seemed to think hm....who is the only Damian I know...it must be him....In my own opinion...this was and still is FAR from a sound theory. I thought to myself...we have this WHOLE H.I.V.E. storyline we have yet to uncover and discuss...surely that must be the plot of Season 4.

Introducing Damian Wayne, without Bruce, without Talia, and making him an adult able to face Oliver...makes the character almost NOTHING like Damian Wayne. I thought to myself... maybe "Damian Dark" refers to how Damian was upon his first introduction into the world of comics, dark, twisted and lost. Much like referring to someone as having "Grayson Charm" doesn't mean Dick Grayson...it means someone has similar characteristics to Dick Grayson's whit and cool charm....another misleading and biased CBM article.

I then considered the avenue of ... what if they made Connor Hawke the next Damian Wayne...but even then that seemed idiotic to me. I thought to myself "Connor Hawke is like what 8 in this universe... if they are following the same general age trend...and acting as if Talia doesn't exist (along with Bruce) ... if Damian somehow was some magic lovechild he would be like 1. Clearly it isn't Connor because Damian was born from a tube...so they could age him to where he was needed...we know for a fact Connor is a healthy 8 year old living in Central City.

________________________________________________________________________________

AND THEN CAME "Scott Klonowski" Facebook user, Arrow fan, and long time Teen Titan's reader

He said...YES the character was "Damian Dark"...but the writer simply misunderstood the spelling...it...the character that was being referred to was not "Damian Dark" but "Damien Darhk" (pronounced the same). But wait...who is Damien Darhk?

Baby-faced Damien Darhk was a mysterious, elusive, and dangerous figure. He claimed to be a major player in America's underworld and certainly had some connection to the criminal organization H.I.V.E. He also seemed to have had access to unique high-tech equipment that has never been used by any known organization. Darhk was considered to be a major criminal by the C.I.A. and F.B.I.; however, their investigations revealed no hard evidence against him. He was a wi-fi fiend, staying in touch with associates by the very latest forms of mass communication. What particularly baffled investigators was his apparent youth; Damien seemed to be in his early twenties yet was already well-established and well-connected. While opposing one incarnation of the Teen Titans, Darhk was shot to death by Vandal Savage.

Another source suggests his end was different...

What particularly baffled investigators was his apparent youth. Darkh seemed to be only in his early 20's, but already he was well established and connected. While opposing one incarnation of the Teen Titans, Darhk was stabbed and killed by Lady Vic . But his blood mingled with HIVE Mistress Adaline Kane, leaving himself immortal. His current whereabouts after his 'death' are unknown....

So...Damien Darhk:

1) Genius ... something we have yet to see from a big season villain, one who uses his BRAIN as a tool
2) H.I.V.E. Connection ...
3) Possible immortality connection to tie to the Pit?
4) Concise comic backstory...but not much! Something the Arrow writers LOVE ... comic book backstory...but backstory that can be expanded and molded due to the character being lesser known!

So is the Season 4 villain going to be Damian Wayne? Probably not...because ti just doesn't make sense...like at all. Could it be Damien Darhk? ... Chances of that... are MUCH higher...but what do you think?

Naw I was just amazed at the amount of research you looked into, very cool! I support your theory very much actually. I knew it was a longshot for Damian Wayne to be a main villain.

Now this sounds much better than an adult Damian who doesn't have Bruce as a father. Good work putting this together @Arrowverse

it's another band-aid or a plugging-the-hole thing that the show runners are doing.

Create a new character!!!

Since Arrow uses Batman villains, I'd love to see as future season-long villains on Arrow: Red Hood, Black Mask, and Bane.

@Marxman12

Ah the age-old (since 2012 when Arrow premiered) claim that "Arrow uses 'Batman villains'" ... but is it true? Absolutely not.... A "Batman villain" or a "_____ villain" (hero specific villain) is a villain who draws that hero to them in nearly every appearance. For example, whenever Joker faces lets say Superman, Batman ALWAYS appears in the storyline...because Joker is a Batman villain, when you have one...you have the other. REAL Batman villains include the greats...ala Joker, Bane, Scarecrow, Penguin, Riddler, Mr. Freeze, etc. Second rate villains such as Dollmaker and Firefly have faced off against other heroes time and time again without Batman's intervention.

Ra's Al Ghul and the League - Anything with Ra's Al Ghul and the League in my own opinion is grey area because this is the one comic character the comics don't tackle correctly. In the comics it is indeed Ra's Al Ghul who trains Green Arrows main adversary, Merlyn the Archer, and it (may be) the League of Assassins who trained the New 52 version of Merlyn the Archer as well. On top of this, Ra's runs a worldwide organization of assassins, the fact that he has yet to come into contact with other heroes baffles me.

Deathstroke - Generally a Teen Titans foe, Deathstroke fought Arrow during the events of Identity Crisis where the hero stabbed him in the eye with an arrow. Since then, Deathstroke has targeted the Emerald Archer.

Deadshot - Deadshot discovers he has a daughter, Zoe, who is being raised in a crime-filled area of Star City. Lawton decides to do right by this daughter, and embarks on a lethal war on the local gangs that plague the area. The series ends with Deadshot faking his death, having realized a normal life isn't for him, but also having mostly cleared up the area and convincing Green Arrow to patrol it more regularly.

Harley Quinn - First of all, she didn't even show up (technically), but if she did, so be it! Harley is a member of the Suicide Squad in the New 52, the Suicide Squad that goes off on missions all the time that don't involve Batman at all...successfully making her, not a Batman villain. Also, it isn't as if she hasn't come into contact with Oliver either, a relationship the Injustice comics really played up.

Firefly - Throughout the course of his comic run he has faced heroes who are most certainly not Batman. Despite facing Batman more than other heroes, it isn't like Arrow made him a colossal villain by any means, he was a one episode wonder, he was there and then he was gone.

Clock King - William Tockman committed crimes with clocks as a theme under the guise of the Clock King becoming one of Arrow's frequent sparring partners until he began to tangle with the Dark Knight....yup...he was a Green Arrow villain first before Batman TAS "stole him"...

Dollmaker - The name as a whole isn't a "Batman villain" Dollmaker has faced off against heroes such as Supergirl, etc. without Batman (By this I mean yes the version of Dollmaker they used has faced MOSTLY Batman ... but other versions have faced other heroes alone.
Picture

Huntress - The Huntress is an anti-hero in her own right, often striking out on her own, in no way does this make her a Batman villian/associate; yes they are friends, but only in the New 52, and storylines where Helena Bertinelli is actually Helena Wayne are Batman and Huntress closely tied.

I didn't mean to sound disparaging of Arrow. I love the show. I'm saying I'd love to see those villains on Arrow.

That Villain makes way more sense to me. obviously Damien wayne would be completely stupid and piss everyone off. I like the new controversy though. Ideally the villain would be Vandal Savage. But eventually doesn't Arrow have to be fighting corporate bosses?
Trickwil
Trickwil - 3/4/2015, 3:34 PM
@Arrowverse- Batman villains are similar in a lot of respect to Daredevil villains. You have Kingpin, owl, Bullseye, and Elektra as his main villains but there's a lot of side guys that fight Spiderman, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, sometimes even captain America. So villains introduced in his storylines are pretty ubiquitous.

^ yes ... Primarily known to fight Batman because of Batman's countless non comic outings and 12+ Batman related series...if GA had even half that uneeded exposure...the villians wouldn't be "primarily Batman villians"
TheRockmore
TheRockmore - 3/4/2015, 8:36 PM
@ManCalledSting Either apply...actually they would both apply... GA only has 9/10 decent villains (basically all of which, minus Onomatopoeia) vs. Batmans 20+ AND THEN Batman's numerous outings in the non-comic and his extra running series in the comics suggest their are about 20 villains who are "Batman villains" who really aren't
