From the latest episode of Arrow, I wasn't expecting much more than some great action to keep you on the edge of your seat, and a small bit of story, keeping the plot moving. Was I wrong! Instead we got some great story to keep you on the edge of your seat, and a small bit of action, just adding to the greatness. So read on to check out my recap, as well as a small review of Arrow's “Deathstroke.” ATTENTION: I will be adding some major SPOILERS to this recap, so if you aren't a fan of spoilers, it's not too late to turn back!
So I'll begin talking about the plot. At the end of the last episode, Slade Wilson (Manu Bennett) begins his "revenge" on Oliver by capturing his sister Thea. We follow up on that, as he takes her to an abandoned warehouse and forces her to get out of the car. She begins running, and runs straight into Brother Blood.
On the island, the survivors debate on whether they should hand the bound Hendrik to Slade. They agree that it is their only option, and Sara thinks it could be an opportunity to kill Slade. During a campaign for the election of Moira Queen and Sebastian Blood, Wilson interrupts by putting up a screen of a captured Thea, asking “How Much is Thea Queen's life worth?”
Back to the island, we see Knyazev rigging a land mine, hoping to attach it to Hendrik and killing Slade.
Oliver gets ready to gear up and go rescue his sister, making Isabel Rochev temporary CEO of his company, knowing that he can't take on all of his troubles at the moment. Felicity tracks down Slade, who becomes surrounded by Oliver and his team, and ends up getting shot with an arrow tipped with pit viper venom, which is the League of Assassins weapon of choice, where then Oliver calls in Detective Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne) to haul Slade off to jail.
Oliver sneaks into the interrogation room, and begins questioning Slade on his survival, and why he is bent on revenge towards the Queen family. He is then released from custody because of Detective Lance's quick decision to arrest him, and by listening to the Arrow. Felicity hooks a tracker to his car, in which the team pursues, but loses him after he scrambles the tracking device.
Slade then returns to Thea and sets her free, but tells her that if she leaves, she'll never find out Oliver's secrets. She is first hesitant, but stays anyway.
Over at the island, Slade senses the mine, and threatens to kill Sarah, but Oliver stands in the way, and Shado's ghost appears behind him, stopping Slade from firing.
Back at the lair, Roy decides that he's going after Slade. When Diggle tries to stop him, he attacks Diggle, nearly breaking his arm. Oliver shows, breaking up the fight as Roy leaves the team angry and hurt. Ollie then goes to Queen Consolidated, where Isabel is holding a meeting. She breaks up the meeting, telling him that she used her time as temp. CEO to hold a meeting, in which everyone votes that she become CEO... Permanently. He then finds out that she works for Slade and breaks out in a fight. She then tells him that Slade wants him at a storage warehouse outside of town, and to come alone. The team objects, but Felicity tells Oliver to go end this war and bring back Thea.
At the warehouse, plenty of henchmen are waiting for Arrow, who takes them all down effortlessly. He finds the supposed room that Thea was in, who is not there. He then finds out that capturing Thea was all a diversion and that Deathstroke had hijacked a prison bus while Oliver was busy.
Oliver and Moira find Thea at the poilce station, who confronts them and tells them that she now knows that Merlyn is her true father. She then gets in a car and leaves Starling City.
We then see on the island that Shado's ghost tells Slade that killing is too good for the crew, and that the island should be their punishment. Ivo offers to help Slade, but is instead punched and told to stay. Slade says that as soon as the Amazo is repaired, he's going to visit the Queen family.
At the Police Department, we find that they won't arrest Lance if he gives up the identity of the Arrow. He admits that he doesn't know, and is carried off.
We then cut to Wilson's hideout with the gathering of him, Blood, and Rochev. Blood is furious about becoming Mayor, while Queen Consolidated is putting all their effort into replicating the serum in Slade's body.
Oliver heads to his lair, where Felicity and Diggle are waiting for him. They give him a pep talk, and he decides that it's time to fight back.
We end the episode with Laurel watching television, seeing the warrant for Deathstroke's arrest. Slade comes to her door, revealing Oliver's secret identity and walking away.
So there's the story in a nutshell. Not what you thought, right? Now onto the characters. Steven Amell's performance as Oliver was great, and Manu Bennett played an intimidating Slade Wilson. This is the best look of the character we've had in present day, and he was great. The side characters were good, not anything special, or that we haven't seen, but they played their roles well.
While there were hardly any action scenes in the episode, we didn't really need any! The episode actually did fantastic without too many fights. While I don't want every episode to be this way, I'm glad they took a break from all the fight scenes, and gave us more of a story. So, that's the recap and a quick review of Arrow episode 18, titled "Deathstroke." Have you seen the episode yet? If so, leave a vote in the poll below, and be sure to comment below with your thoughts! If you haven't seen it yet, I advise to watch it as soon as you possibly can, as in my opinion, it's the best episode yet this season.
