BATWOMAN Mid-Season Finale Stills Offer A Closer Look At The CWVerse's Unique Take On Poison Ivy

We recently got a first look at Nicole Kang's version of Poison Ivy, and in some stills from tonight's mid-season finale, we see more of the Batman villain in action. Does this take do the comics justice?

Batwoman's mid-season finale airs on The CW tonight, and "Pick Your Poison" promises to put The CWVerse's take on Poison Ivy front and centre. This version of the iconic Batman villain is played by Nicole Kang and, rather than being Pamela Isley, Mary has basically been infected by one of her plants.

There have been hints that Pamela's personality will come to the fore, and a new look at the villain has now been revealed. As you can see, this is certainly a unique take on the character, but one that's perhaps not as comic accurate as some fans would like. Gotham also delivered its own spin on Poison Ivy, but her last big-screen appearance was in 1997's Batman & Robin.

"As Ryan's (Javicia Leslie) family dynamic grows more complicated, she also finds herself in the middle of a Bat Team stand-off between Luke (Camrus Johnson) and Mary (Nicole Kang)," reads the synopsis for Batwoman's final episode in 2021. "Meanwhile, Alice (Rachel Skarsten) finds a new sidekick to do her bidding. Also starring Nick Creegan and Robin Givens. Holly Dale directed the episode written by Kelly Ota and Emily Alonso."

We're intrigued to see where this is going, but it's still a shame that The CW series is reinventing Batman's greatest villains rather than bringing them back to Gotham City. Clearly, despite the existence of a Multiverse, Warner Bros. still keeps its biggest DC characters on a short leash outside of theaters.

What do you think about this latest small screen take on Poison Ivy?

If that was a cosplay it would have been a bad one.

She's hot but comic book accurate?

What's with the bulky shoulder things? Are we seriously at the point where showing a woman's shoulders is too much? Is this the 1950s?

Also, this poison ivy costume on a show everyone on this site has dismissed as garbage has had more coverage here that both invincible and superman & lois.

@Waddles - yeah. It feels like this site is becoming more of an mcu/cw site than a comic book movie site.

@Waddles - ikr? It's not even like some of these are even that small. One is the latest interpretation of superman, with many arguing is one of the best superman properties ever, and another is robert Kirkman's next series after the walking dead. Modok at least had Patton Oswalt and had the potential to lead to more r rated content with marvel. Locke and key seems to have a bigger budget than the Netflix marvel shows. And it's crazy they can find time for properties that have no comic basis on a CBM site yet not the f@#$ing superman show!

@Origame - It's the 1940s. At least in the 1950s we had Betty Page. Here is what we might have gotten before 2017 (#metoo) ...

@GeneralZod - yeah. Batwoman has so blatantly acted as an sjw woke show, so I think it's appropriate to bring it up here.

Many of these properties when bringing female action heroes will cover up their bodies as much as possible, while arguing they're avoiding "the male gaze" and how problematic that is. Yet it ignores the sexual revolution, in which women were actively fighting against that very thought process believing they had the right to show off their bodies if they wanted to. And that's also why you get characters similar to this who use their sexuality as a power against men.

These people seriously want us to go back to how things were in the 40s while calling it progress.

@Origame - Bingo. The vast majority of women want to express their sexuality/femininity, the vast majority of women enjoy the attention of the "male gaze", and of course the vast majority of men want their eye-candy -- that is biology. It's a very politically powerful and vocal minority that has total control over certain institutions and, as a result, we've regressed 70 years in a 3- to 4-year period. (Compare the attire of Margot Robbie/Harley Quinn of the 2016 SS movie with the Robbie/Quinn attire in the 2020 BOP movie or the 2021 SS movie.) Of course we condemn sexual harrassment and other illegal conduct. But to think that a 53-year-old, ground-breaking film like Barbarella (at the start of the sexual revolution) literally would not be made today because of 'toxic masculinity' is astounding.

@GeneralZod - exactly. The only point I'd kinda give them is that the women should be choosing to dress like this, but even then it's a kinda ridiculous request. In this case it's the superhero genre, which is known for dressing their characters up in skin tight clothes, even with the male characters. Why do you want a role like this if you don't want to be sexual at all?

Not to mention the double standard with male characters. Why isn't it a problem for Jason mamoa to go most of aquaman shirtless? "But that's just male power fantasy". So...women can't still be sexually attracted to that? And women also can't feel empowered by a female hero dressed in revealing clothes?

Typical CW cosplay shit. They’re the worst and they’re only diluting the IP.

What’s their budget anyways? $200 an episode? Lol

It's gonna take a few years before DC and WB restrictions lessen to the degree that they can use anybody it was really only announced last year and besides Bridget Reagan was cast as Poison Ivy this season.

Horrendous. No other word to describe it but horrendous.

For Chrissake, make the effort and spend the money. Amateur cosplayers, with their own funds, come up with outfits that are more creative and just look better.

This is what happens when you spend 20 dollars in the costume department. Not too bad considering that..

In my opinion she looks more like Cheshire than Poison Ivy, but that could just be me.
