The CW Cancels Planned BATWOMAN And SUPERMAN & LOIS Crossover Due To Issues Caused By Pandemic

Thanks to the many complications caused by COVID-19, it's been confirmed that the planned "World's Finest" crossover with Batwoman and Superman & Lois is no longer set to take place. Check it out...

Crisis on Infinite Earths was a massive crossover that kicked off in 2019 and wrapped up early last year. Featuring almost all of The CW's DC characters, it was a big budget, action-packed blockbuster of an event, that we later learned would be followed by a much smaller in scale effort in 2021.

The plan was for a "World's Finest" crossover taking place across Batwoman and Superman & Lois, but it's now been confirmed - via TV Line - that the idea has been scrapped by the network.

As you might expect, this is a result of COVID-19 and the complications which come with having the cast and crew of two separate shows cross paths in the midst of a pandemic. This also means the new Caped Crusader won't get the opportunity to meet Supergirl before her show reaches its end.

"We’re not really able to cross over because physically, we can’t cross crews due to the fear of exposure to COVID," showrunner Caroline Dries explains. "So if Supergirl weren’t ending this year, I would say there would be more of a possibility. But I’m afraid that at least this year, we’re not going to be able to tap into that dynamic."

The crossover was first announced when Ruby Rose was playing Kate Kane, and it's unclear whether that's factored into the decision at all. If this was set to revolve around the hunt for the missing Bruce Wayne as some fans suspected, then it might have been hard to pull that off with Ryan Wilder - a character with no connections to the billionaire - beneath the mask instead.

Are you disappointed that the plug has been pulled on this "World's Finest" event?

First year since Flash started without a crossover.....

Hopefully they go back to doing crossovers when things are okay again. Sometimes a break in things could end up being an end to things.

I say take a break from these crossovers.

few years at least...make it special again

@CyberNigerian - Really they could just wait a few years for a big one. The crossovers started off with 2 individual stories for the two shows they had, and they got bigger each year, expanding things and bringing more of the shows in. Might be good to go back to basics and build them up again. Like what they were gonna do, instead of all the shows, just two (maybe multiple small crossovers, two shows per team up)

Guessing they will try building a World's Finest type thing with Ryan and Clark now, although based on the trailers, think she would be closer in personality to Dick Grayson than Bruce or Kate.

Man even before this, yeah a Batwoman and Supergirl crossover would have been pointless. They spent the last 2 crossovers building up Kate and Kara's relationship, then one actress leaves her show and is replaced with a new character, the other actress got pregnant (good for her) and decided she wanted to move on. So yeah if they want a worlds finest pair, makes sense just to start over and use Clark

Thank God. I'm cautiously optimistic for Superman & Lois. They don't need anything dragging them down.

@JFerguson - I know people hate him these days BUT I firmly believe that JJ Abrams would make a grandious Superman revival with Henry Cavill finally getting to play a hopefull version of the character.

@Blergh - I’d be open to it but I really don’t like JJ’s execution of story in his past few projects.

I felt he screwed the pooch on Star Wars and he also did an elseworlds Spider-Man comic that he wrote with his son and it was just terrible.

@JFerguson - Star Wars was a genuine mistake on his part. I only blame him for Episode 7 though, the mess that became Episode 9 is on Kennedy/Johnson.

@Blergh - Maybe. For episode 9, I don’t know how self-serving JJ wanted to be with his ideas.

I feel like I would have been more open to a direct, more cohesive continuation of Johnson’s story with Kylo Ren remaining the main baddie and the skywalker saber remaining broken. I also think Palpatine was JJs idea based on interviews I’ve seen. Just really sloppy handling overall IMO

@Blergh - Nah episode 9 could have followed episode 8 as seen from colin treverrow's script.
Episode 7 was pretty formulaic and episode 8 did a lot to not try to be repetitive or unorginial like the 7th film was.

No worries, just take your time and shoot in the safes way possible. TV is the last bastion of film entertainment now, gotta keep that safe. Even though I don't watch either show.

Just when we were finally gonna get a proper “BvS”, the kryptonite to end all kryptonites strikes again. And maybe proper’s a strong word. . .

Shame would've loved to see Superman mentor a rookie superhero and maybe gain some insight on his relationship to Batman but oh well it's justified.

Why do they think Superman teaming up with Batwoman is what the general audience wants?
She's not Batman. She's not a female version of Bruce Wayne.
It's like getting excited for Superman teaming up with Signal(Duke Thomas).

Mentoring a rookie hero?
I'd rather see Superman mentor one of his characters then someone with a totally different powerset.

"Well um Batwoman, since you can't fly or tank bullets, um don't kill anyone......though realistically you'd need to do that in self defense far more then me".

Green Arrow and Flash only got a pass because it was early days.
Flash and Supergirl....worked only because of the chemistry between actors.
But we would have like Flash/Superman.

Honestly, with Crisis over, Arrow having ended, Supergirl and Black Lightning ending this year, Green Arrow & Canaries [unfortunately] not happening, Batwoman clusterfck thanks to Ruby Rose, etc., it really feels like the Arrowverse is slowly coming to an end. Yeah, there will be a couple new shows at least going forward, and Flash and Legends are still around (though probably not for too long), but I dont feel like we are in the equivalent of the beginning of "MCU Phase 4" for the Arrowverse. Feels like the energy is gone and verse doesnt have much steam going forward.

The pandemic is the big obstacle for any type of crossover even if it just pertains between two shows.

Even so I am willing to bet they would have found a way to still make it happen within the shows. Some level of connection would be established between Ryan and the missing Bruce in the story that could have lead to his location (as well as the search for Kate, heck if not then make it about finding her whereabouts) and we would've gotten a World's Finest reunion of sorts.

I hope whatever idea they had isn't fully discarded for the upcoming years, especially if Supergirl ends with Kara not dying.
