Crisis on Infinite Earths was a massive crossover that kicked off in 2019 and wrapped up early last year. Featuring almost all of The CW's DC characters, it was a big budget, action-packed blockbuster of an event, that we later learned would be followed by a much smaller in scale effort in 2021.
The plan was for a "World's Finest" crossover taking place across Batwoman and Superman & Lois, but it's now been confirmed - via TV Line - that the idea has been scrapped by the network.
As you might expect, this is a result of COVID-19 and the complications which come with having the cast and crew of two separate shows cross paths in the midst of a pandemic. This also means the new Caped Crusader won't get the opportunity to meet Supergirl before her show reaches its end.
"We’re not really able to cross over because physically, we can’t cross crews due to the fear of exposure to COVID," showrunner Caroline Dries explains. "So if Supergirl weren’t ending this year, I would say there would be more of a possibility. But I’m afraid that at least this year, we’re not going to be able to tap into that dynamic."
The crossover was first announced when Ruby Rose was playing Kate Kane, and it's unclear whether that's factored into the decision at all. If this was set to revolve around the hunt for the missing Bruce Wayne as some fans suspected, then it might have been hard to pull that off with Ryan Wilder - a character with no connections to the billionaire - beneath the mask instead.
Are you disappointed that the plug has been pulled on this "World's Finest" event?
