GOTHAM Concept Art Featuring Cameron Monaghan's Joker Will Haunt Your Nightmares

The Joker's appearance in the series finale of Gotham divided fans, but this newly surfaced concept art offers a closer look at the character, & might just give you nightmares. Check it out after the jump.

The series finale of Gotham featured the return of Cameron Monaghan's Clown Prince of Crime and he looked...pretty unique! His trademark green hair was replaced by some thinning wisps of greenish/white strands, while he was horribly scarred after falling into that vat of chemicals at ACE.

It was a nightmarish, unique take on the iconic Batman villain, and now some concept art has been revealed which offers an even more detailed look at those impressive make-up effects.

It's interesting to see how this was all dreamed up, and given the often twisted aesthetic of the now cancelled FOX series, it definitely seems like an appropriate enough look for The Joker. While he's not exactly comic accurate, it's fair to say that he did at least look a little more impressive than David Mazouz in the Batsuit!

What are your thoughts on Gotham's unique take on The Joker?

@dragon316 - Your prize for the most confusing word salad of a grammatical catbox of cluster[frick]ingly punctuated jibber jabber? What could I possibly award the person who has everything? Clearly, the world is your oyster and all the wonders of creation exist solely for your pleasure.
I yield my sword to you, good sir.

That's pretty similar to what we got. They really fricked up the Joker in the finale. Both in appearance and writing. They made him go out like a bitch after only 3 minutes of screentime. He should have been the main and only major villain of the finale. Not wasting time getting rid of bombs.

@Nightwing1015 - well after episode 7, the final season entered a noticeable slump. And the finale was a major disappointment. They should have split the finale over three episodes and had Mr J the focus of that storyline, not, as you said, going out like a bitch.

@Nightwing1015 - The producers behind the show were contractually obligated not to include The Joker in the show. Warner Brothers only gave them a select few characters they could actually use by name and appearance in the show. It is an absolute wonder why Warner Brothers didn’t sue them for breaking their contract in the earlier seasons with Jerome. For the final season, they were given permission to use a few other characteristics of the Joker for Jeremiah, which is why they got to use the chemical vat origin and get him close to a comic accurate portrayal. They were not, however, permitted to give the character green hair, the name off The Joker, or the purple suit (which is why he had a green suit with a purple overcoat). It would’ve been nice to see more of the character, but they did what they could with him without getting in trouble.

@NoerGregorio - No, their treatment of Jeremiah in the finale is nothing to do with legal issues. You are right that the appearance is clearly affected by that, but not the writing. They have done stories where Jeremiah was the big Joker-esque villain before. They should have done that in the finale. I wouldn't let the production staff off easy just because they didn't get to say the name "Joker". That's no excuse for the character's lackluster treatment.

Ehh, that concept art could be better. BUT, let me take this moment to once again say how terrific Cameron Monaghan was. He gave us two of the three best live-action Jokers of the last 20 years with Jerome and Jeremiah (we didn't spend enough time with Mr. J). Terrific performances for those two characters.

OT: About 12 minutes into this and it's great stuff. The guys that wrote the animated X-Men series discuss the franchise

The only thing from this show that will haunt me is that papier-mâché Batman mask at the end

@Makiveli21 - So the same type of people who think HArley and Joker have some kind of ideal relationship because of Suicide Squad, seriously every time I hear that I just want to show them
