GOTHAM Showrunner Talks Future Villains; Teases Possible 'Killer Croc' Appearance

Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller talks here about not holding back when it comes to bringing some iconic Batman villains to the upcoming series and even hints that the likes of Killer Croc may show up in the near future despite the difficulties of bringing a character like that to the small screen...

Gotham has a lot of positive buzz currently surrounding it, although some comic book fans remain sceptical about the lifespan of a series set in Gotham City long before Bruce Wayne became Batman and how it will handle early versions of some of the Caped Crusader's most iconic villains.

However, Bruno Heller told Female First as part of a conference call about the Gotham that they don't plan on holding back when it comes to introducing a variety of familiar faces. "We haven't excluded anyone from the mix potentially, but generally what we're looking at is characters where there is some drama or a story behind how they got to be the way they are."

Of course, as those involved with the Fox series have already said, we won't be seeing any of them suiting up or utilising an array of superpowers anytime soon! "We're looking for characters who live in the real world of Gotham as opposed to the even more super real world of Metropolis if you like. It's not about super powers, it's about super will, if you like. We veer towards those characters who are interesting as people, rather than interesting for their particular power or their particular gimmick or their costume." That's a good approach for the series, though with Bruce Wayne only 12 years old and Gotham hinting at the villainous futures of characters like The Riddler and The Penguin NOW, are there really enough stories with them to fill out all that time?

Regardless, we're going to see a lot of different characters, and it sounds like one of the most unique might be about to make his live-action debut somewhere down the line! "There are certainly characters that would be very difficult to put on the screen. That crocodile guy [Killer Croc] is a tough one - although we may go there..." What do you guys think?

I am really excited for this show in general and cannot wait for the premier. On a side note the Arkham games have done so well by featuring the super natural villains in all their glory, I really wish someone would embrace that into a live action show or movie.

Excited for this, but I feel it could turn out to be a huge disappointment. Going in with low expectations.

I'm cautiously optimistic for this, but I really want them to use costumed characters at some point considering it's a comic show. It would be cool if they decided to use the Order of St. Dumas as proto-vigilantes on the show.

Waylon Jones in stage where he hasn't become very Croc-like yet (which is where he would be at this point) isn't that hard to do...

Theres going to be Penguin, Catwoman, Fish Mooney ( love that name) and now a Killer Croc rumor. This all for season 1 as well. I'm with if the story's good.

"Hope this show isn't visually Burton-esque and thematically Nolan-esque."

Ummm

"raises hand"

Isn't this just a Batman show, WITHOUT Batman and just Gordon instead? I mean, I haven't been following much of the news, but if they are having these villains now, what is the point when, and what will happen when Batman does show up?

I would assume I would just think of Smallville and how they did it, or remember the series plan for Bruce Wayne (the Smallville version of Batman, before Smallville even existed), but it's still a question I have.

This show will be chock-full of ham-fisted symbolism and allusions to Batman every episodes. A show based on Batman mythos is diddly squat without Bats.

Birds of Prey, anyone?

So a Non-Croc Killer-Croc ?

What's this Nolan-based real-world shit? - what's Killer-Croc gonna be? - a roided-out mountain of a man with really bad psoriasis?

They need to stay away from the Nolan style and give us the real Batman universe (without the Bat).

Nolan's "real world" style was cute for like a second, but was one of the negatives of his trilogy (slightly made up for witht he creepy Joker look).

I still think this should have been modern day with the Bats popping up in random episodes in the shadows. The cops dealing with him and the villains.

People gonna complain about this show like they do SHIELD
