GOTHAM Showrunner Talks Future Villains; Teases Possible 'Killer Croc' Appearance
Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller talks here about not holding back when it comes to bringing some iconic Batman villains to the upcoming series and even hints that the likes of Killer Croc may show up in the near future despite the difficulties of bringing a character like that to the small screen...
Gotham has a lot of positive buzz currently surrounding it, although some comic book fans remain sceptical about the lifespan of a series set in Gotham City long before Bruce Wayne became Batman and how it will handle early versions of some of the Caped Crusader's most iconic villains.
However, Bruno Heller told Female First as part of a conference call about the Gotham that they don't plan on holding back when it comes to introducing a variety of familiar faces. "We haven't excluded anyone from the mix potentially, but generally what we're looking at is characters where there is some drama or a story behind how they got to be the way they are."
Of course, as those involved with the Fox series have already said, we won't be seeing any of them suiting up or utilising an array of superpowers anytime soon! "We're looking for characters who live in the real world of Gotham as opposed to the even more super real world of Metropolis if you like. It's not about super powers, it's about super will, if you like. We veer towards those characters who are interesting as people, rather than interesting for their particular power or their particular gimmick or their costume." That's a good approach for the series, though with Bruce Wayne only 12 years old and Gotham hinting at the villainous futures of characters like The Riddler and The Penguin NOW, are there really enough stories with them to fill out all that time?
Regardless, we're going to see a lot of different characters, and it sounds like one of the most unique might be about to make his live-action debut somewhere down the line! "There are certainly characters that would be very difficult to put on the screen. That crocodile guy [Killer Croc] is a tough one - although we may go there..." What do you guys think?
