SPOILERS: Tonight's Episode Of LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Finally Revealed Rip Hunter's Fate

Rip Hunter has been missing since the season two premiere of Legends of Tomorrow and tonight's episode finally revealed where he's been. However, it's fair to say we definitely didn't expect this!

Rip Hunter was a pivotal part of Legends of Tomorrow's first season, so the fact he's been missing since the premiere has changed the show in a pretty big way. However, tonight's midseason finale provided some answers, but they probably weren't the ones any of us expected! After the Legion of Doom revealed that they need Hunter to get their hands on the Spear of Destiny, we were taken to 1967.

There, a familiar trench coat wearing character could be seen running through the streets, but the action came to a halt when it was revealed that we were on a film set for a sci-fi movie being helmed by a very different looking - and sounding - Rip Hunter. That's right, he's somehow now a filmmaker!

What led to this change isn't clear, but it's possible that the events of either the premiere or Flashpoint (maybe both) have led to him being left with no memory of who he is, hence why he's directing movies based on his old life. How that relates the the Spear of Destiny and Barry Allen's message from the future isn't clear of course, but we'll hopefully get some answers when Legends of Tomorrow returns!

@MrPositive - that was pretty awesome! I would love if Marvel/Sony did a movie that included different dimensions Peter Parker and use Tobey and Andrew.

This half season of Legends was thoroughly enjoyable. It was a huge step up from Season 1. They seem to have finally found the right tone for the show. Like, hey let's just have a fun romp set against interesting backgrounds in time.

I actually liked the actor and everything for Vandal Savage but ultimately that entire arc wasn't handled super well, although I thought the finale was pretty great.

Interesting! The Spear of Destiny was what used to pierce side of Jesus at the Crucifixion. Hitler tried to find it during WWII. It's the only weapon that can defeat the Spectre, and it guarantees victory in battle. I wonder if they're really gonna go there.

@Battabing - Not to mention it's one of DC's most famous magical macguffins.

I was pretty surprised by Rip's appearance--I almost thought he was just downtown:
