Netflix has released the first official trailer for the hotly-awaited fifth season of Lucifer and it contains one helluva twist as it's revealed that when the Devil (Tom Ellis) returns to Earth, he won't quite be himself...

As you'll see below, when "Lucifer" reunites with Chloe (Lauren German), Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt), Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) and the rest of his friends, he won't actually be Lucifer - he'll be his twin brother, the incredibly powerful and increasingly dangerous Michael, who has his sights set on ruining the life his brother has built in Los Angeles.

There's no first look at God (Dennis Haysbert), but there's plenty of fun action and romance to tide you over until the season premiere on August 21st. The first half of the season will premiere then, with the latter eight episodes set to debut at the tailend of this year.

Tom Ellis (Lucifer Morningstar) headlines the series with a supporting cast that features Lauren German (Det. Chloe Decker), Kevin Alejandro (Det. Dan Espinoza), D.B. Woodside (Amenadiel), Lesley-Ann Brandt (Mazikeen), Scarlett Estevez (Trixie Espinoza), Rachael Harris (Dr. Linda Martin), and Aimee Garcia (Ella Lopez).

In the stunning fifth season, the stakes are higher than ever...

Secrets will be revealed, beloved characters will die, and we’ll finally get an answer to the question, ‘Will they or won’t they?

Lucifer season five starts streaming August 21

Wait, i havent seen the show yet, but is that the guy who played brother blood on arrow? Kinda makes you wonder the implication of that given how Lucifer tied into crisis.

@Origame - But his character detective Dan (AKA detective Douche) has been series regular since episode one. I think it's just a coincidence. Especially since Arrowverse has never been anyway referenced outside that Crisis cameo.

@Odin - well naturally when he was cast that wasnt how it was intended. However, retcons happen. And we know from the flash that the same actor means same person (hence why henry allen is jay garrick and barry allen). So most likely hes going to be considered the brother blood doppelganger, even if its not gonna have any plot significance.

@Origame - Same actor does not mean same character. There is no rule within the arrowverse that specifies this has to be the case. And I'm also sure that Lucifer won't dive deeper within the whole Arrowverse. The only connection they might explore is John's dealings with Lucifer in the past such as John helping Maze in some manner. Also the fact that Kevin Alejandro's character of Sebastian Blood looks the same as Daniel Espinoza is irrelevant. The Arrowverse has already established that certain characters exist on one Earth but don't necessarily exist on another. So while they look the same both Daniel's and Sebastian's personal histories are completely different. And i doubt they'll retcon this.

A small example could also be found in Adrian Chase of Earth-2. If i recall correctly both Laurel and Oliver addressed him as Adrian but I'm not 100% sure anymore. But on Earth-1 his real name was Simon Morrison. And Adrian was simply a cover as part of his plan to break Oliver. But on Earth-2 he somehow still has this name even though he never went evil? A clear example of Same actor, Same looks but not really the same character.

@MisterRiviera - its not same character. Its doppelganger. Clearly chase of earth 2 was supposed to be the doppelganger of the earth 1 simon. That was clearly the intent, hence why they played the prometheus theme when he revealed his face.

Cool, honestly, with only two seasons left I'm just excited to see what they do. Whether they pull it off or not, I don't really care. The show has been good enough so far that I'll always have good memories of watching this.

There is hardly anything biblical about this. Are they going with the JW fiction that Jesus was Michael the Archangel and so actually Lucifer and Jesus are brothers? Sorry if this is spoiler of where this story is headed. Probably not, but you never know with show business.
