Ahead of tomorrow's series season finale, HBO Max has renewed Peacemaker for a second season! James Gunn will be writing and directing each season 2 instalment, meaning Jody Hill, Rosemary Rodriguez, and Brad Anderson won't be stepping back behind the camera. There will also presumably be something of a wait, as Gunn is currently helming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
"Creating Peacemaker has been one of the true highlights of my life, both professionally and otherwise, with John Cena and the incredible creative team around me, as well as our partners at HBO Max," Gunn says. "To have something we all love so much be loved by the audience in turn has been a wonderful experience. I can’t wait for folks to see where Team Peacemaker goes in season 2."
Lead star John Cena adds, "I am incredibly honored and humbled by the response to Peacemaker and the experience of playing this character. Thank you to James Gunn, Peter Safran, HBO Max, the crew, and my castmates who worked tirelessly to make this unforgettable series."
HBO Max hasn't sent the season one finale to press, so there will clearly be some big surprises (likely setting the stage for the next batch of episodes). It's unclear if this is the show Gunn has previously suggested he might be working on for the streamer or if he intends to continue expanding Task Force X's world on the small screen by bringing back characters like Bloodsport and Ratcatcher 2.
Either way, we're very excited for more Peacemaker after those stellar first seven episodes, and we'll be sure to keep you updated tomorrow with a breakdown of all the big reveals from that season finale.
We can't wait to see what the opening credits look like...
