Identity Of First Villain (Who "Has Battled Kara's Cousin") In SUPERGIRL TV Series Revealed

One of the first foes that Supergirl will face in the upcoming TV series of the same name isn't exactly an iconic DC Comics bad guy, but the official description once again indicates..

Which iconic DC Comics villain will Supergirl be battling it out with in the first episode of the upcoming CBS series? Um, the Lumberjack? (we don't know who he is either) According to TV Line, he'll first appear in the pilot episode of the show which stars Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El/Danvers and Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen. Apparently, they're now looking for an actor similar to, "Rory McCann, the 6-foot-6 actor from Game of Thrones". Maybe cast Rory McCann?

Regardless, the description they give is very interesting as it reveals that he's a "big, burly monster of a man, who has battled Kara’s cousin -that's SUPERMAN! - in the past and shows up to ascertain her level of power, on behalf of an unseen superior." So Superman DOES exist in this world, and there will obviously be some references to him. Supergirl was hinted at in Man of Steel, so could it be that this series takes place in the DC Cinematic Universe? Share your thoughts on this odd piece of news below...

The series would really flourish if it was connected to the DCCU. Kara was refrenced once in Man of Steel and was the main character in the prequel comics. But unfortunately the time line just does not match.

It's not possible that it's set in the DCCU since the discussions about crossing over with Arrow and The Flash would mean those are in the same universe as well, which isn't the case.

How much do you want to be that this "unseen superior" is none other than Lex Luthor?

Yeah well we are going to see some obscure characters since SuperGirl has a very limited rogue gallery.

That's right. Back when Gusto went by the name Terry Long, he was all about Wonder Girl.

Hope not. Taking away from one of Superman's more relatable aspects of his alienation, loneliness, isolation and trying to find his place in the world and build relationships built on trust with those who don't understand him ALL goes out the window the moment you give him a family member to just hang around with.

Zod and his buddies are great villains in this regard, and makes the ending of MoS a whole lot more powerful in the sense he had to give up on his chance to be with his people by killing Zod his last connection to his place of birth. It loses that if you just go "Hey, that's fine as th other Kryptonian is also a good guy, so don't be torn over if your people and you are really violent or peaceful"

Also general audiences in the comic book movie world must accept a lot in terms of powers, aliens and people running around in costumes, but the one other survivor of the planet just so happens to be a cousin! My be stretching that disbelief.

How are they going to address superman whenever he has not been mentioned in either arrow or flash??
GhostDog

This is why dccu is confusing. Arrow is told they can't use or mention gotham, metropolis, supes or bats but....is this show now allowed??? I'm sure snyder and Co don't wanna have toe superman's. Two flashes is one thing but supes is the big dog

@comicsbornandbred

I agree with the TV universe they are building it is out of tune or whack.........

To me it is hard to imagine why Arrow and Flash cannot use or at least drop Superman's and Batman's name.

LOL! Well please mention one of Supergirl's arch nemesis....... yeah I cannot even name one as well.

So this is the best I am sure they could come up with.

Since she's just starting out I think it's good that her first villain is a nobody. She shouldn't face her biggest and best villains right out the gate. It's good to build up to that. They did the same things with Arrow and Flash too.
