Read SUPERGIRL Actress Melissa Benoist's Perfectly Diplomatic Comparison Of The DCEU To DCTV

Melissa Benoist doesn't take the bait when asked to compare The CW's DCTV superhero shows with the "grim, colorless" DCEU. "I do think it’s inevitable that we all start to reflect each other."

The debate over the hopeful/playful tone of The CW's DCTV universe versus the world-weary cynicism of the DCEU has been a hotly debated topic for years.  However, when Supergirl star actress Melissa Benoist was asked to compare the two, her response was so calculated that perhaps she should consider a post-Hollywood career in politics.

When specifically asked whether the tone of the two separate universes would ever align, the Patriots Day actress responded,  "I think so. Ezra Miller’s Flash is bringing humor and quirkiness, and the DC TV universe has had to grapple with some pretty dark, emotional storylines on Arrow. I do think it’s inevitable that we all start to reflect each other. But I do love how positive and uplifting Supergirl’s character is and I don’t think she will change too drastically from that because in essence, that’s just who she is."

While the two universes are likely to never mix (sorry, Crisis on Infinite Earths conspiracy theorists), perhaps there's a little bit each live-action adaptation can borrow from one another?  You can see Benoist on the big screen in the Mark Wahlberg-led Patriots Day, which opens in North American theaters on January 13.  Supergirl returns from midseason hiatus on Monday, January 23 at 8/7c on The CW.

Perfectly diplomatic, indeed. Wish there was more to add.

I guess I could say: I wish both DCTV and DCEU were actually good, but beyond that, there's not much to say.

You know what the dark, cynical, bleak world of the DCEU needs?

A team of heroes to come together to fight against evil, hatred and oppression and be the light that rekindles the hope, compassion and humanity in all the people of the earth.

...oh wait..
That is happening this November and beyond!

#Duh!

Well at least DC comics are consistently of good quality. Disappointed with the films at the moment. Hopefully they can find a good stride soon.

It's not gonna happen, but if they could work it out contractually it would probably be fairly easy to write Ezra Miller's Barry Allen into The Flash TV series for a crossover episode since they've established the idea of a multiverse. I could imagine Cisco getting a bit of a fourth wall pushing joke as he gushes over movie Flash.

"Now that's a costume! How much money did you have to put into this thing?"

TV Barry shoots him a glare. Cicso straightens up and tries to look unimpressed.

"I mean, it looks a bit bulky. Probably not as aerodynamic as our Barry's"

The comcis are at least KILLING it this year. DC has been consistent in that arena for sure.

Although, I've really been enjoying Arrow, Supergirl and LOT.

I think SOME act as if the DCEU is THE END ALL AND BE ALL of the DC Universe. Critique that and it's a trip to "immature insult lane" followed by a flight to "you just don't understand city."

The comics are still king in my book.

@ComicsBornAndBred - Agree. Movies are great spectacle but the source material will always be the most important thing to get right.

@ComicsBornAndBred - it'd be great if the movies just stuck to the source a bit more. Oh and also were better written.

2017 is gonna be an INSANE year for DC Comics. I laugh at all these fans who only follow the movies and shows.

Sounds like she's paying attention and she's a team player. Gotta admire that.

This response is arguably a preconceived one. I wouldn't be surprised if it was. It reads like one.

Come on, these guys are coached and prepared to a certain degree for these press events. It's a suitable response nevertheless.
