SWAMP THING Will Air On The CW, But There Are Currently No Plans For New Episodes

Fans were outraged when DC Universe's Swamp Thing was cancelled after just one season, but The CW has now picked up the rights to the well-received horror series. Could we see new episodes at some point?

We have good and bad news for fans of DC Universe's prematurely cancelled Swamp Thing. The good news is that the broadcasting rights to the series have now been picked up by The CW, and the network plans to air the first (and only) season at some point. The bad news is, no new episodes are in the works... at least, not yet.

Swamp Thing was one of the main selling points of the DC Universe streaming service when it launched last year, but despite a highly positive reception from fans and critics alike, the decision was made to scrap the show after just a single season. There are currently no plans to continue the Earth Elemental's story on the small screen, but that doesn't mean things won't change down the line if there's a strong enough response to the re-runs.

Also, having Swamp Thing on The CW opens the door for a possible crossover with the Arrowverse shows. That's just wishful thinking for now, of course, but at the very least, this announcement means that fans who missed the series on DC Universe will now get to check it out on network TV.

In addition to Swamp Thing, The CW has picked up Coroner, Dead Pixels and Tell Me a Story.

Wouldn’t want this to become a CW show anyway. Feel like it would lose its edge and distinctiveness.

Sacrifice that Titans spinoff so Swamp Thing can live again.

Man, I really need to watch this. My 'strategy' has been waiting to get DCU and Disney Plus subscriptions until there's heaps of content on either, but might need to start the former soon.

@teefurtree - Update: have watched it on my free trial, lol. Not that anyone should give a rat's *butt* on my opinion, but I think it was done quite well, and captured some of the best moments of Moore's run (especially in "Anatomy Lesson"), but I was a little disappointed with the soapiness at times and kind of awkward dialogue. Would've appreciated a little more of the identity crisis and psychological tension going on within Swampy's brain (?), and less of characters half-heartedly reacting to news. To oversimplify, a little less talking, a little more showing. But, horror elements were great (if not always necessary - sounds like a terrible demon is about to murder someone everytime someone says a slightly ominous line), and it's probably the best Swamp Thing adaptation yet, by far.

One of the best DC characters. But I don't know if it fits the CW-verse. I still think a film version would have been preferable. I'm not a Snyder fan, but ironically, I think a hyper-literal adaptation of Alan Moore's Swamp Thing run a-la Watchmen might have been pretty interesting. And much more tolerable than his nihilistic take on Superman and Batman.

if i'm not mistaken, I think I saw a cameo of Swamp Thing in Crisis on Infinite Earths. So this makes sense

@sKeemAn - You are not mistaken, he was shown to be on another earth. And in the wrap-up they seemed to suggest that more than one earth survived, and showed Swampy again.

The first half of the season was really good, but it took a turn for the worst toward the end, IMO.

@sKeemAn - agreed. you can tell when the execs started to be more involved with the show and made it more formulated.

I really want him and Matt Ryan's Constantine to meet

This is going to be cut down a bit though, as there were moments and dialog that won't fly on the CW. Still, good news particularly if they can bring Swamp Thing and any of the other characters into a Legends cross over.

Good news: Bad news, that's saying it. Great show. Still secrecy surrounding it's cancellation. It had Wan on board so I'm surprised. Although with WB nothing surprises me.

Show had potential to be a masterpiece. Hopefully adding more viewers sprouts something for HBO Max to pick up.

Give us more of this!

As long as it stays in the same tone.

Hopefully CW don't chop any of it when they start airing it.

@TMW1987ProudProWrestlingFan - I hope they don’t chop the gory stuff but they’ll have to chop the excessive F Bombs. This is my absolute favorite Comic Book Show of all time.

I started Swamp Thing recently and I'm almost done with it. It's good, but I think it's overhyped. Everything with Swamp Thing himself is perfection, but the rest of the story and characters are pretty meh to me.

The CW airing this will most likely be for the nostalgia of last year since it almost a year ago when the show premiered as well as the very abrupt cancellation.

As for Swamp Thing appearing in any capacity alongside Constantine, IDK at the moment. It does not feel like the Stargirl amicable relationship that they have. Maybe things will change if Constantine gets his sho revived and he departs Legends. I always vouch for a supernatural show with him as the lead to be the next new entry in the Arrowverse.

Kind of doubt CW money is more than DCU money, so probably won't be more than just an airing and either a one-and-done crossover, a once in a while cameo, or replacement on Legends.

This was a great show that was faithful to the Swamp Thing comics, dark scary great atmosphere abd special effects. Hopefully the CW airing this show will gain it new fans since most couldn't watch this since they didn't have DC Universe. This show right here and Titans and Doom Patrol are what I'm talking about with DC actually taking risk and doing things differently, I can't imagine any of the shows now which are gonna be done by Disney/Marvel studios will do any shows for any of their characters like this.
