Let's Talk About the Jay Garrick Suit in THE FLASH

First introduced in Season 2 of THE FLASH, the Jay Garrick Flash costume was well-received by fans, and has become regarded as one of the best superhero uniforms in recent memory. But just how good is it?

Don't misconstrue this as an attack on the character's costume. On the contrary, I love it. It fits the universe very well. It retains the classic look of the original Flash. I mean, look at this. It's amazing:

That being said, I've heard a lot of people saying things like "This is the most comic-accurate superhero costumes ever!" And while it is remarkably similar to its extremely goofy comic book counterpart, that statement is incorrect.

I am forced to conclude that whoever thinks this has not been exposed to any live-action superhero content aside from THE FLASH. While the show knocked it out of the park with designs like Reverse Flash and, of course, Jay Garrick (as well as a certain character that showed up in the Season 2 finale, and shall remain nameless to avoid spoilers), THE FLASH's track record has been less than stellar in terms of being faithful to the source material.
Anyway, I pose the question to you, reader, does this:
 look more like this:

than this:

I think the answer is rather obvious.

@TheArrowverse - That was a mistake. I was not given the option to change it to an Editorial. I have since corrected this.

@JredTheRed - No, it isn't news. However, I was not given the option to make it an Editorial initially. I've fixed this mistake. Thanks for pointing it out.

Both suits are pretty good adaptions

@malsemarcel - Absolutely! I have no grievance with the suit as an adaptation of the original suit. People are just so surprised at the fact that it works that they lose their ability to be reasonable.

I liked the adaption of this suit and was surprised by how good it looks, as I wasn't sure how it would translate. Also it suited Teddy Sears.

I still haven't finished season 2 but have seen pictures of John Wesley Shipp and don't think his costume looks good at all, and seems to be quite badly fitted.

@SimplyAz - That Shipp costume is terrible. I had snow boots like that when I was a kid in the 80's. Why the hell would they give a guy, whose super power is running, a pair of big ol' boots? And what's with the painted on muscles? I like most of the costumes on the Flash, but this one is sub-par.

@TomSolo -

It just looks very Smallville-esque/Bad Cosplay, the leather trousers also look weird on someone his age.

@SimplyAz - Well, and no offense meant to Shipp, it also looks bad because Shipp is clearly not a runner. :)

@SimplyAz - Also, the design and color palette don't really fit witht the other costumes on the show.

@TomSolo -

Yep. He should have got in better shape perhaps.

@SimplyAz - well, maybe. I don't want to dog him too much. If the suit was designed better, it wouldn't matter as much. Those boots kill me. How the hell would someone be able to run in those?

Zolomon had a much better suit, but I'm glad Shipp turned out to be the real Jay. I hope Barry eventually gets a better suit as well.

Don't you think it's a little unfair to compare a sweater and blue pants (worn by only Jay and Homer Simpson) to the Kevlar-like Batsuit?

Also, with the Flaspoint ending, is anyone else hoping for Ralph Dibny?
MarkJira
MarkJira - 5/30/2016, 5:02 PM
@ager - Fine, how about comparing the 1978 Superman costume to the one worn in the comics of the time, or Psylocke in X-Men: Apocalypse to the comic version?
As for Dibny, I'd love to see him, but that effect would be really difficult to achieve on the budget of The Flash, and would likely just tumble into the uncanny valley

@MarkJira - I have to agree with you on Ralph Dibny. I doubt that would look good on the CW budget. Save him for the adult film version of the Flash. That would be hilarious.

I dont want PLASTIC MAN I want Ralph Dibney , the detective.

@ager - I understand.
But still, that would have to get a payoff sometime or fans would just end up disappointed.
