The Sandman hasn't been officially renewed for a second season yet, but strong viewership and a positive response from fans and critics bode well for the continuation of the story. Now, speculation is mounting that at least one season 2 episode may have already been shot.

The most recent episode of I Like To Watch, which sees Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamolodchikova breaking down The Sandman on Netflix's YouTube channel, includes footage from what's being referred to as a "bonus episode" of the show.

The shots appear to be taken from an animated adaptation of issue #17 of the comic, "A Dream of a Thousand Cast," and issue #18, "Calliope," which sees Dream reunite with an old flame.

The video is now set to private, but you can check out some screenshots below.

Neil Gaiman Tweeted about "A Dream of a Thousand Cats" last year when the show was still in production, so our best guess is that an eleventh episode featuring both of these stories was completed before being scrapped. Though it will likely serve as the season 2 premiere if the series does return, we wouldn't take this as confirmation of a renewal.

"There is another world that waits for all of us when we close our eyes and sleep — a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams (Tom Sturridge), gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the dreaming and waking worlds forever. To restore order, Dream must journey across different worlds and timelines to mend the mistakes he’s made during his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes, and meeting new entities — both cosmic and human — along the way."

The Sandman also stars Kirby Howell Baptiste as Death, Boyd Holbrook as The Corinthian, Donna Preston as Despair, Stephen Fry as Gilbert, Mason Alexander Park as Desire, Charles Dance as black magician Roderick Burgess, and Sanjeeve Bhaskar as Cain. Joely Richardson will play Ethel Cripps, while David Thewlis will take on the role of her son John Dee, aka the deranged Dr. Destiny.

The 10-episode first season of The Sandman adapts the first two arcs of the Vertigo comics series, "Preludes and Nocturnes" and "The Doll's House."

First half was great. Once the vortex girl and her fostered brother become the plot it's a snoozefest.

@McMurdo - agreed. The Vortex storyline was a huge bore. Compelling at times but overall a slog.

I have a feeling these will be dropped as a "Holiday Special". Similar to what they did with Sabrina's Halloween Special or Black Mirror's Xmas Special. They're really good one-off stories, so keeping them separate from the seasons, isn't a bad idea. Plus the Christmas Special tradition, is so British, it's perfect.

Loved this until the Vortex stuff. Became a drag at that point, thought that arc had some compelling stuff here and there. Still, a great show.
