TITANS Star [SPOILER] Weighs In On Their Character's Death And Whether A Return Is Possible

The latest episode of Titans saw us bid farewell to a longtime character in the HBO Max series, and they've now opened up on their departure and whether we could see them make a return down the line...

Titans has been very hit-and-miss since arriving on DC Universe, and its move to HBO Max hasn't made the series any less divisive. While season 3 has certainly been a little more focused, some creative decisions have come under fire (including Red Hood's rushed introduction and the depiction of classic Batman villain Scarecrow).

One of the biggest shockers, however, came when Alan Ritchson's Hank Hall/Hawk was taken out by Jason Todd in the show's third episode. That was to be expected after the actor signed up for the lead role in Amazon's Jack Reacher TV series, but Hawk returned in yesterday's episode for one final farewell after saving Tim Drake and Donna Troy in the afterlife.

Stuck in purgatory, Hawk is reunited with his brother and vows to continue helping lost souls stuck there. The question is, could Ritchson ever make his return to Titans

"Is anything ever really finished on this show or any superhero show, right? [Laughs]" the actor asked Entertainment Weekly. "I spoke with the producers and writers before leaving, and was just very humbled by how gracious they were and how open-ended they left the conversation. 'Would you ever come back if we wanted to have you back?' And I said, 'Absolutely.'"

As for what led to him leaving Titans, it sounds like it wasn't his decision, but still one he welcomed. "I think I was ready to move on and try something else and enter a more mature phase of life. And strangely I ran into it immediately in Jack Reacher, this next role, but no, I was surprised by the call. I was content with the show. I really enjoyed the character, and I enjoyed the schedule."

There had once been plans to launch a Hawk & Dove spinoff, but they fell by the wayside following the introduction of the two vigilantes in Titans. It doesn't sound like Ritchson is dissatisfied with his time in the DC Universe, but with such a big cast, certain characters have yet to receive the attention they deserve (and many fans have argued that Hawk is among them).

I did not like seeing a suicidal Bruce. I mean he’s always had that kind of waste but for him to fully give up like that.

@JonAwesome - They love giving us everything BUT Batman when it comes to tv/streaming.

@The1st - Batman is DC's crown jewel and I think all the TV producers said that Batman is the only character off limit for live action TV. Even when they are allowed to use Batman they have to negotiate how long he's in it, how many frames is the batsuit shown, the story, etc.

I never understood why TV producers will try to even make a story around Batman when they can't show him...

@JonAwesome - I'm only on episode 6 so far of S3 but I don't think Bruce is suicidal. He's just a victim of Gotham who's scars are getting worst as he ages which is what Snyder wanted with Batfleck. I think its okay so far because this Bruce is older and he's already had 2 robins and a batgirl.

This last episode was absolutely terrible and unnecessary. Titans is reaching Teen Wolf (MTV) levels of bad.

@RitoRevolto - Nah, Teen Wolf's first 4 Seasons were much more better than any of Titans' stories, there was actual effort and heart and some lessons in those teens' supernatural coming-of-age story. Titans on the other hand has always felt itself to be too self-important, for "grown ups" and the tone has never been the correct one.

A shame because back when this was announced around 2017 I was very much looking forward to it, but not anymore. It costs me to admit that it has been very disappointing.

@NinnesMBC - I'll give you up to 3A...maybe 3B because at least they were trying, but after that the show just tanked. That's obviously just my opinion.

But yeah, with Titans it's been a struggle from the get go.

I’ve always watched this show as strictly entertainment. Really just kind of didn’t judge to much of the story. But holy shit. Yesterday’s episode was bad. Like what is the story line now?

@Murderisbadong - I agree. I can watch a show with no expectations, but when a show exceeds them...in the wrong way, that is something.

I really hope they do more with Tim Drake. This past episode could have been a chance for that but it mostly was unflattering for him.

I'm actually fond of most of how they've handled the Robins so I hope this is just part of building a larger character arc.

@Slotherin - In terms of character and growth I’d say Grayson has been the best Robin, followed by Tim, and I’ll put Jason on the bottom. Not that’s he’s bad but the writers could tone it down a bit with his angst. He doesn’t need to be dropping f bombs every two seconds. Reminds me of kids playing Call of Duty who discovered foul language

@Arthorious - ehhh.... I'm actually okay with it. He should remind us of real kids in a sense.

@Arthorious - I like that Tim is around, I like how they've adapted him for the most part and the guy playing him. I just feel this past episode could have done better by him.
He cowered for most of the afterlife stuff, which was fine, but he never really got to show overcoming it.
I almost thought he was going to prove himself in it and manifest something Robin related to show he's worthy of taking up the mantle.

@Slotherin - Agreed I thought that he would have some moment of courage during the death scene

Am I the only one who actually likes this take on Scarecrow?
I like that he's operating as Jonathan Crane and the way he weaponizes psychology and manipulates fear without needing to always have the gas and the mask.

@Slotherin - it’s definitely and interesting take and has allowed the villain to grow in ways that we haven’t seen before.

On another note, suppose Hank made it to the other side of the bridge: would he come back in his charred disfigured body?
Slotherin
Slotherin - 9/25/2021, 2:02 PM
@Arthorious - good question. Donna appeared to return as she was in the afterlife rather than in her body on Themyscera
