Well, holy freaking ice dragon.

Game of Thrones continued to bring the fire tonight as we watched Jon and his Magnificent Seven fight off an army of wights for as long as they could until they got some much-needed reinforcements when Daenerys arrived with all three of her children. Things were looking good too for a short while as our heroes narrowly escaped certain death by boarding Drogon, but the Night King got the last laugh as he used an ice spear to take out Viscerion in one of the show's most tragic deaths yet.

Next week, we're all heading to King's Landing for a meeting to end all meetings as Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister, Davos Seaworth, Brienne of Tarth, Missandei, Grey Worm, Varys, The Hound, and Jorah Mormont enter the Dragonpit to come face-to-face with Cersei Lannister, Jaime Lannister, Bronn, Euron Greyjoy, and The Mountain.

Check out the new promo for next week's season seven finale, which will run for a record-setting 81 minutes, below:

Episode #67: "TBD"

Debut: SUNDAY, AUGUST 27 (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

Directed by Jeremy Podeswa.

Summers span decades. Winters can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne continues.

It stretches from the south, where heat breeds plots, lusts and intrigues, to the vast and savage eastern lands, where a young queen raises an army. All the while, in the frozen north, an 800-foot wall of ice precariously protects the war-ravaged kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond. Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords and honest men...all play the 'Game of Thrones.'

An original series based on George R.R. Martin's best-selling 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series.

Jon Snow looks so [frick]ing good as a King! He's born for this shit

I love this show, but the nightking not using his ice spears on the heroes while they were stranded was such a terrible plot hole.

@FishyZombie - that bloke is chill as [frick] though. He sat there with his mates watching Jon and his pals freeze on their little rock all night rather than just mozying on down and killing them all. And he killed that dragon without breakin a sweat. I think he's just not worried about Jon and Co. at all, so he goes for the dragon that's burning up his army first, then goes for drogon and the crew next but misses.

Although i don't know why he's so chill. Seems to me the white walkers are gonna be WAY too easy to beat. They've got two dragons to burn the armies, a mountain of dragonglass that they can use to kill the walkers (arrowheads? Or arm their army with white walker killing spears?) and half the characters have valyrian swords that also kill the walkers. Plus we now know that once you kill a white walker all the dead they've turned just die. And we've only ever seen a couple of white walkers. Unless there's hundreds we don't know about this should be easy right?

@connorblaze - it's weird that we've reached the point where the heroes have pretty much every advantage. With Jon and Daenery's combined forces, both Cersei and the Night King are [frick]ed.

@FishyZombie - I was thinking that the whole time....but maybe he knew there would be dragons coming to the rescue and he needed to hold off in order to get one for himself?

@FishyZombie - yeah true. Then again I thought that going into this season it was gonna be Cersei vs Everyone else in Westeros and she should be dead within the first hour. But they pulled some clever tricks to make them lose Dorne, Greyjoys, Unsullied and Tyrells. Although I hate how Tyrion has [frick]ed up every gig he's had since he hooked up with Dany. They've never given him a way to prove himself and how smart he is, because all his plans have gone to hell. When he was in charge of Mereen, he ended up getting all the masters attacking the city. He got all her allies in Westeros taken off the board. Even getting Jon to meet with her was Melissandre's idea. If I was Dany I'd think he was shit at being hand. He never earned it. Bad writing compared to the early seasons. They've made him her conscience and heart instead of her brains. And he's barely given lines to be witty or cheeky anymore. Since he left Westeros he's been dull. Shame.

Anyway maybe they'll figure out a way to level out the white walker battle beyond giving them a dragon. But tbh i hate that it's all about the walkers now. I wanted the end to be focussed on a 'game of thrones' between littlefinger, cersei, dany and jon. Way more interesting than good vs evil zombie stuff, when we know the good guys will win that fight. The political stuff has always been the best part of the show, not the supernatural fluff. Give me a littlefinger/varys convo over a dragon fight any day.

@FishyZombie - Depends on how valuable the spears are... they can kill a dragon, after all. Why waste them on a group of guys totally surrounded and sure to die in time anyway?

@connorblaze - i really hope Varys and Littlefinger meet one more time before the end.

@FishyZombie - He killed Viserion because he was doing most of the damage of the dragons and Drogon was on the ground so no need to hurry up. He doesen't care about the "heroes".

@Ryguy88 - Theres a huge thread on reddit about this. Basically he's a greenseer like Bran and was waiting for them to come. When Bran warged into a raven earlier this season, the NK is standing on the exact spot Jon and crew were on the ice lake. He had the entire thing planned.

@Himura - thats a good point. Its too bad Bran was too busy to help Jon out there.

@Himura - thanks for this, I had no idea. I always go back and rewatch episodes halfway through through the season. The halfway point was very many episodes this year so I haven't done so. The writers of the show have been great on several levels for years now. I like going back and seeing things I overlooked initially become obvious foreshadowing. Then there are people like you who have a way better eye and memory, afternall, all media I consume is just fodder for my marijuana addiction

@FishyZombie - I don't think he wanted to spear them because he'd rather turn them.

@FishyZombie - I think they were trying to show the arrogance of the Night King. He's letting them know there is nothing you can do to beat me. And basically he can kill them whenever he chooses. I think he will too. I believe this whole story is the the telling of the end of Westeros, the 7 kingdoms, the Iron Throne, all of it. I think they will kill the the Night King, but the last winter will never end. It's going to claim that whole continent.

@FishyZombie - Tormund and the Hound. Gotta be the first spin off. "Rangas are beautiful! We're kissed by fire, like you!" "How did a mad [frick]er like you survive this long?"
