GAME OF THRONES Prequel Show Adds KING KONG Actress Naomi Watts As Series Lead
HBO's highly anticipated Game of Thrones prequel series has added its first cast member, and it's none other than Academy Award-nominated actress Naomi Watts. Find out about her character after the jump...
Multiple trades are reporting that Naoimi Watts (21 Grams, King Kong, Mulholland Drive) has signed on to play the lead role in HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series.
Though the character Watts will be playing is not named, she is described as “a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret.”
Apparently, HBO is in the process of casting numerous supporting roles while also searching for a director. The still-untitled show is expected to begin shooting early next year. Specific plot details are still under wraps, but we do know that the prequel tale will revolve around the descent from the Age of Heroes into The Long Night.
Jane Goldman (Kingsman: The Secret Service, X-Men: First Class, Kick-Ass) is teaming up with A Song of Ice and Fire author author George R.R. Martin to write and show-run the series.
“Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend … it’s not the story we think we know.”
