HBO has officially listed Game of Thrones' upcoming eighth and final season on its spring schedule, and while synopses are understandably being kept under wraps, they have gone ahead and revealed the running lengths for the final six installments of the long-running epic fantasy series.

While every episode was initially rumored to run well over an hour, it looks like only the final three will be super-sized, with the last two chapters running a full eighty minutes each as Jon Snow (Kit Harington) leads our heroes against the Night King (Vladimír Furdík) and his Army of the Dead.

03/15 UPDATE: While our previous story suggested only the final three installments would be supersized, it looks it'll actually be the final four episodes that receive an extended running time, with Episode 70 running 82 minutes, Episode 71 running 78 minutes, and the final two installments running a full eighty minutes each as Jon Snow (Kit Harington) leads our heroes against the Night King (Vladimír Furdík) and his army of the Dead.

Episode 68: 54 minutes - April 14
Episode 69: 58 minutes - April 21
Episode 70: 82 minutes - April 28 (UPDATED)
Episode 71: 78 minutes - May 5
Episode 72: 80 minutes - May 12
Episode 73: 80 minutes - May 19

The April 28th episode, which is the longest of the shortened season, will be the first post-Avengers: Endgame, so plan accordingly, because that weekend is shaping up to be an absolute all-timer.

In King's Landing, Cersei Lannister has seized the Iron Throne by incinerating the High Sparrow, his followers and her rivals in the Sept of Baelor. But as old alliances fracture and new ones emerge, an army of dead men marches on the Wall, threatening to end the game of thrones forever.

@L0RDbuckethead - I bet the first 3 are kinda one big "movie" and one big battle from a different character perspectives (battle for Winterfell) one normal episode after, but longer, another fighting episode at kings landing and the last episode is kinda epilogue.

Besides, they would legit make more than a shitload of movies, no doubt about that! :3

@BigMikeReviews - Didn't they do something like this a couple years ago? I mean it wasn't concurrent with the broadcasts, I think it was shortly after, but like it was either for season 6 or 7, some theaters did screen the first two episodes of a season back to back? That sounds very familiar.

@Doomsday8888 - well I recall reading part of an interview from D&D, there was a time, waaaaaay back at the start of approaching all this, they had considered ending it all with a trilogy of feature films. I think they were worried for one thing about not getting the budget necessary to finish this in the most fulfilling way, but HBO execs assured them they'd have what they needed. It was only for a pretty small time this was genuinely considered, and I believe there's multiple reasons why it quickly got eschewed. Besides, how would they have then handled release? One per year, like the LOTR? After the series living a long time as it had, I'm not sure many fans would've been cool with that kind of overall wait time. but hell, this show's been just as cinematic if not even more so than plenty of studio films for awhile now.

Pretty disappointing. It's basically just 7 episodes instead of 6 if you add up those extra minutes.
