Earlier this year, a very interesting rumour started doing the rounds which claimed that Sacha Baron Cohen will play Mephisto in Disney+'s Ironheart. While the news still hasn't been confirmed, this is a perfect casting decision on Marvel Studios' part, and one we definitely hope to see pan out.
Remember, it's previously been reported that Ironheart will feature a clash of technology and magic, with The Hood likely striking a deal with the demon so he can acquire the powers needed to defeat the hero and establish a criminal empire.
We have to imagine Mephisto has bigger ambitions than just helping him, and chances are we'll learn more about what those are in Agatha: Coven of Chaos based on this rumour. As you can see below, the latest claim from scooper @MyTimeToShineH is that Cohen has also shot scenes for the series.
Common sense says Mephisto has ties to both Agatha Harkness and other witches who appear in the Disney+ series, and we can't imagine the demon is best pleased with the Darkhold's destruction at the Scarlet Witch's hands. Elizabeth Olsen is also rumoured to appear in the WandaVision spin-off, albeit for a single episode.
Hopefully, these appearances are setting the stage for even bigger things for Mephisto in the MCU. He's battled The Avengers, matched wits with Loki, and even stole Spider-Man's marriage.
Following WandaVision's release, fans made it clear they want to see Mephisto on screen. While it's possible this was always the plan, Marvel Studios has clearly taken note, and Cohen looks set to put a suitably bonkers and sinister spin on the character that we're sure will see him interact with all manner of heroes and villains on Earth-616.
Ironheart is set to be released on Disney+ sometime in 2023. As for Agatha: Coven of Chaos, that's currently expected to hit the streaming platform late 2023/early 2024.
