Brett Dalton Teases A New Direction For 'Ward' When AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Returns

Brett Dalton talks here about the changes to come for Grant Ward in the second half of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s second season following his less than amicable split with Skye (or should that be Daisy Johnson/Quake) in the midseason finale. Hit the jump to check it out...

Grant Ward is a complicated guy. In the first half of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s second season, we saw him go from captive to committing fratricide (and patricide) to obsessively fulfilling his promise to reunite Skye with her father. His reward? Three shots in in the side from the woman later revealed to be Daisy Johnson, a.k.a. Quake. Talk about ungrateful! As a result, big changes are on the way.

In an interview with TV Line, Brett Dalton seeming confirmed that any sort of romantic feelings between Ward and Skye are officially gone! "Ward had a hell of a time in the cage by himself for six months, he had some suicidal tendencies, and once he comes to the end of wrestling with all of his demons, he makes a promise – to reunite Skye with her dad," the actor says. "And that went on for 10 episodes. But her shooting me three times kind of answers the question of, ‘Are you into this? Is this gonna work?’ It was a big statement for her to make." The actor then went on to talk about a "new chapter" for Ward, and seeing where things go from here - especially with the deranged and confused Agent 33 at his side - should make for interesting viewing!

On a related note, I'm all caught up with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. now. It's pretty awesome, huh?

Wilding thinks AOS is awesome now? The planets must have aligned or something...

I'm so glad this show has stopped being a side dish to the MCU and is now becoming a meal (even if it's a little on the small side).

Aww, I actually liked the psychopathic, maniacal, hopelessly (and creepily) in love with Skye version of Ward. It was a HUGE improvement over how bland he was before the HYDRA reveal. Interested to see how he develops with Agent 33 though.

Ward is the most interesting character on the show. I can't wait to see what he does next. Agents of Shield has been awesome all season. I've really enjoyed it since the Hydra reveal of the first season.

@batz11: I finally found the time to finish the last few eps, and I'm kind of gobsmacked to find myself realising that the midseason finale topped both Arrow AND The Flash...can't believe they killed [SPOILER] though. Mother[frick]ers!

@EzioKenway1225: Not yet! Haven't had time unfortunately. Hoping to get up to date this weekend though. I'm looking forward to it!

Yeah, I've been a big fan of AoS since the beginning, but really took off after Cap 2 and S2 was all terrific for me...right about the spoiler, bummed about that...I love Flash (especially) and Arrow too, but AoS did trump them imo with that amazing mid season finale...

Ward is utterly psychopath. He is the Hannibal Lector of the MCU.

The episode when he confronted his brother with a smooth voice but lethal eyes was epic...You never kow when he is Dr Jekyll or Mr Hyde, when he is gonna strike whle adopting perfect civil smile.

He trully frightened me.

Of course Agent Carter is better than AOS. Marvel has obviously gotten more comfortable and confident with tv storytelling. Both are still two of the best CB tv shows on air right now. Can't wait for Daredevil to shut more people up.

I don't know, Ward hasn't really displayed Taskmasters abilities (though I wouldn't be opposed to it). Wait a minute.....CRAZY THEORY TIME!

Ok ok, this is....well out there but consider the following. An Interview with Dalton at one time said that he saw his character as a hero, so perhaps he evolves into an antihero at some point. So who? Ward has been proven to be, well crazy. He's been a loyal agent, then a HYDRA lackey, then a suicidal love stricken nut. He shifts these personas like nothing, almost like he has multiple personalities. With that said....is it possible Ward could potentially be the MCU equivalent of Moon Knight?!?! 0_o *dramatic music plays*

Josh finished AoS and he likes it! Nice man, glad to hear You enjoy it a bit.

I'm loving both of the shows, but can't wait till AoS returns even though AC is badass.

Ward is the best he's ever been. You never know what he's going to do. At this point, I don't care if he's redeemed or not. It really doesn't matter.

He told Raina, he's everybody's type and that will make me question every single thing he does.

A lot have said he could be Taskmaster and I would so love to see that.

@SymbioteJoker I LOVE CRAZY THEORIES!.... But I don't think he's moon knight, that'd be badass though. I think there's a good chance he may be taskmaster, even thought the skills have shown necessarily, and hey, maybe as a nod to the actual character, maybe he could have an alias where he's "Tony masters" for a bit. Or....maybe.....he's......Grant Ward!!!! Agghhh!!

Also, @ScionStorm, Roxxon actually already showed up in the oneshots.

Glad you like AOS now, Josh. I know most people go with after the Cap 2 revelation is when the show got better but to me it happend several episodes piror. When Sky (Daisy) got shot and Coulson saw the Kree corpse. That's when it all started clicking for me.

Cool!

Ward will go from one flavor of douche to another flavor of douche.

Like from Strawberry Kiwi Douche to Pina Colada Douche!

He's been one of the best characters on the show, but there are SO many "one of the best characters on the show".

And now we have Inhumans, too.

And, ScionStorm, Roxxon was at least cameo'ed since Iron Man.

And Black Bolt is in NO WAY unaware of the "births" of Skye and Reyna.

And he just sits and waits, silently watching...

Until, one day...

SO fecking phenomenal, this show!
